I found someone who is willing to give a great deal on a machine, but I am concerned about a potential issue it may have.

HP zd7000

3.2ghz HT P4

1 GB RAM

80 gig hard drive

17" widescreen

DVDRW burner

4 USB/1 Firewire

Sounds great on the spec-side, and all the industry-mag reviews I found for it were killer, but when I start reading user reviews I find it has issues with getting too hot, overheating & shutting down. Something about a bad chip on the graphics card that overheats and fry's the motherboard? Some have said there was a recall on certain runs of the model.

Anyone have experience with this beast? Issues?

Obviously just starting out and going into wedding season with gigs outside and temps in the 100's, I can't have a machine that is prone to running hot - let alone frying itself!

Thanks.

I wouldn't go with it...besides the RAM and Harddrive being small, the user reviews speak volumes for me when looking at different product. Keep shopping, my friend, there are better deals out there.

I think you'd find that most of the reviewers claiming overheating issues are also the ones heavy into the PC gamming world and are overclocking not only the CPU but also the Video card trying to ring out as much as they can from the system... this will cause overheating.

But, aside from that... the hdd is awefully small on that unit. And the Ram is limited.... sure you could upgrade both of those. If you're willing to do that then depending on the price it may be a good deal.

A question from another thread...sorry for the hijack, but it seems to fit here

Denon HD2500, Tag and Rename, Itunes, NOOB
Ok,

So I've been out as a lappy DJ for a few weeks now. I miss having control over decks, but I'm nearly paid off on debts and will eventually look at some 3700's hopefully.

Anyway...here's what's going on in my DJ life.

So for now I'm on an HD2500 as a backup. The Denon Music software that helps syncs the folders/playlists is showing some of my files as having a "zero" something found and it won't let me database them either on the computer (denon folder), laptop, or flash drive. Or it just doesn't like my tags for some reason. Some of the artists/titles are blank and it wants me to load them manually. Screw that.

I'm thinking if I have to rename them for that program, then i'd better just fix the problem: Bad tags.

I've been using iTunes and thought I had all the tags right. But I was wrong. Very wrong.

I'm now doing this through a piece of software called "Tag and Rename". Its pretty cool I guess. I'm basically renaming files using the artist and title.

So here's the questions I have.

I use Virtual DJ and I make my playlists in iTunes. VDJ can load iTunes playlists.

Now I notice that iTunes cannot find my files since they have been renamed.

How do I go about rebuilding my iTunes library? Do I delete the current XML file for iTunes then open again? Reinstall? Go back in one by one?

thanks all...

I think I may have a short term solution to my problem. I managed to rename about 2000 files. Of which I went into iTunes and just went to the playlists and helped point to the correct filename for each one marked with a "!". Now what I think I'll do is just reinstall itunes, or delete the master xml file and just keep the files as is for now.

I think what I'll do is just fix the rest of the files I have in playlists and just batch rename the rest and then do a full reinstall of iTunes.

So...is it "audio grabber" you guys recommend for ripping and doing the naming conventions right the first time?

i'm happy with Artist and Title for my file names. Do you recommend anything different?

Ok....

So I used Tag and Rename. I went through, straightened everything up....I had TandR change the file names using artist and title in the actual file name.

then I deleted the iTunes XML file....(the library file) then I opened iTunes again and pointed to the Music folder.

iTunes RENAMED every single file back to the original file structure. What a freakin' bonehead thing. I wasted 12 hours or so.

Sheeeesh...Any way to prevent that from happening? Just don't use iTunes?

ROFLMFAO.......... :yoBow:yorofl:

JT, in iTunes open it's preferences and go to Advanced uncheck "Keeps my iTunes folder organized" and it shouldn't change your tags. Test it with a few files first to see if it changes them back again.
Brilliant!!!

Dang...I have no good excuse for overlooking that obvious checkbox. Thanks Dan. Now I'm the biggest asshat on the digital board.

Ok....so I think I'm getting things done...

i have at this point made a folder of songs to go on my Denon. I used Tag and Rename to do all the work. They all loaded perfectly on the 2500.

I have now unchecked the box "keep folder organized" and from now on will slowly get everything fixed in iTunes....thanks guys!~)

OK, this is all terrific, but can someone please tell me how to program my Betamax.....er, I mean VHS......um......wait....T-VO? :sqwink::sqlaugh:

Joe don't tell me an electrician doesn't know that you stop the flashing time by placing a piece of electrical tape over the display.... I mean honestly....:sqfrown:
