Looks like my van was stolen.

The insurance is having the van towed to a shop in Newark on 12th Avenue. I don't know if it's there or not. Price Right Towing is picking up the van. I just have to get to the shop to give them the key so they can fix the van.

My issue right now is paying the deductible and getting someone to put up a Gofundme page. I'm working on the solution. I'm doing much better now. Of course I'm not all the way there. Just better than I was.

What is the Go Fund Me about Adrian? Are you seriously going to setup a Go fund me for something that was 100% your fault?

No way I could bring myself to do that knowing that I brought it on myself. To each his own, I guess.

I've been playing one of my favorite songs on my phone. Billy Joel Keeping The Faith. I've been dancing to that song. They have a special show coming up with Billy Joel on CBS in April about his 100th concert at Madison Square Garden.

I was asked to tell what gear was in the van. I'm embarrassed to do so but I will. 4 double 15's passive speakers. 2 Yamaha double 15's and 2 EV Tour X double 15's. A Denpn DN MC 6000 controller, 2 QSC amps. A G5 and a 2450. The 2450 was the first amp I bought when I came back. 2 facades, a bunch of lights. Shure BLX dual wireless mics that was in a backpack and a bunch of wires in a plastic box. Also some wires in a bag along with 2 Yamaha DSR 115 speakers. All I can say is UGH!

Yes, whomever stolen the van knew the equipment was in there. They needed the van to move it all. Very like they knew you were a DJ too. I can’t believe you left that much equipment in a van on the street and you had stuff stolen before or heard about stuff stolen from cars. Now is the time to start over with a nice compact system you can bring in easily. T

You said a mouth full. My plan is getting another MC 6000 controller because I love that controller! It's compact and easy to carry instead of one that's super big needing wheels to move it. I certainly will be looking for a system that sounds great and isn't that heavy.

mix all you need is the following:

- mc6000 $400 (used for $300)
- rcf evox12 system (more powerful than any event you do) $4000 used on fb marketplace w/ covers
- a cheap rockville facade $149
- a shure slxd mic (g50 band)- on sale for $600

miscellanous wires and other random components... Under $5k and you got a solid system that wont break anyones back. If you want even lighter weight get the jmix8

Sorry to say never going to happen, I gave him an option for under 2K and even that likely won’t happen unless someone gives him the money. Without a profitable series of jobs coming in 2K to 5K would seem like a mountain to climb. And the van still needs to be fixed which will have a deductible, that will likely need to be done ASAP to avoid storage fees.

Instead of looking for gear you should assess your priorities.

There is no amount of gear we can own that establishes us as a 'DJ.' In fact, I was already employed as a club DJ long before I owned any gear at all. Hell, I didn't even have a sufficient music collction. The music belonged to the club. What I did own - was the paycheck.

Gear for you - is emotional not vocational.

You need to change that or this cycle will repeat itself: spend money on gear, tell everyone about the gear, lose gear to thieves. You were apparently using your van as a storage location while broadcasting it's contents to anyone who would listen. That's indicative of having a dream instead of a plan.

I recommend against buying anything. You just don't need it. There are better ways to scratch your DJ itch than buying equipment,

He could pick up one Polar 10 or 12 for under $1000 new and have more than he needs for what he does. He could also go with a wired mic of decent quality for under $100. He isn't doing what we do

Valid points. I’m just trying to find comparable to what he had but more efficient in terms of weight and transport and function (the mic he had wouldn’t work in his area well).

The reality is what he really enjoys is playing for the seniors, other public performances require his partner and a lot more moving of gear he could probably get by with a Bose S1 and if he loves the Denon one of those and be well equipped for his hobby

Not to hijack this thread, its a sad thing to read. But whats the process in insuring all the gear we buy? I seen dj insurance companies but also read where some used their car/house insurances to cover it all in case of fire, water damage and theft.

Thoughts on which route to go?

Sorry to say but those mics never gave me a problem. They worked perfectly every time.

this will vary within your state more than likely... but there are different insurances based on the situations.

Homeowners insurance will cover issues on the property itself. But most insurances will limit this to just a few thousand. This has to be on the property itself. A public street or being at an event will likely be excluded from homeowners coverage, but not in all cases... again depends on the exact policy. You can increase your homeowners insurance policy to cover expensive business items damaged at home due to an unfortunate event.

Inland Marine Insurance will cover items that are in your vehicle. Whether they were stored there or during transport (such as moving from your vehicle to the venue and back). This is likely the best option for DJ's, especially those with under $25k worth of stuff, as that is the threshold before most companies need to itemize.

For things that break because you dropped them, or you spilled something, or other accidental damage, other insurances exist for that.

Auto insurance is to protect the vehicle. It will not cover items in it... that's where Inland Marine Insurance comes in, and in some instances Homeowners, depending on the amount of the items and location of the incident.

Best to talk to an insurance agent.
