71 Days, 2 hours and 14 minutes is the time since the reciept was printed when I entered my Mackie SWA1501z into the Commerical Audio inventory for warranty repair.

I picked it up this afternoon after waiting 2 months and a couple days for a new woofer and amp board to come in from mackie. Somehow one of the circuits onboard shorted, blowing the speaker, which in turn caused the amp to go out. I'm just happy to have my nice, light, 70lb sub back so that I can use a pair of them for most gigs. I LOVE my new QSC HPR181i, but my god those things weigh a TON!

It took 71 DAYS to get parts to fix it....And your glad to have it back???

If i didn't have the parts within 5 days, It would have been thrown in the river.

That service SUCKS....

Yeah, mackie's service sucks ass, thats the purpose of posting the thread.

I am happy though to have the unit back because its much lighter than my other subs and theyre really quite nice little subs when they work.

That's why I sold my Mackies and went passive. Besides with the new China parts problem things look bad.

My Mackie 450's and 1801Z have served me well. But with the China thing paralyzing Loud Technogy, and having heard the new QSC K Series, I'll be moving to the QSC K's as soon as they become available.

It is why I stepped up and bought the Dyna System 5 yrs of good service for my Italian made SRM 450's. I hardly remember owning them since the upgrade.

It isn't Mackie only.

Carolina's scenario is becoming more frequent with warranty repairs on electronics goods lately. China's economy depends heavily on ours ~ they make it, we buy it.

Well, we haven't been buying as much lately. So the pipeline for repair parts is drying up along with the shipments of new goods.

When I worked at the TV shop, there were a few instances where repair parts took for freakin' ever to get in from places like China and Indonesia. Sometimes parts weren't available at all and the unit was simply replaced.

Thats what I was expecting since, after the diagnosis, the only original thing that came back to me was the casing. However, they chose to make myself, and the repair center wait 2 1/2 months to send the parts.

Yes, and thats why we're moving to 100% QSC Products for our audio.

Some of their products are made in China as well. For instance...

The new K series is made in China.

about maybe 3 years ago my Mackie sub went out, it was embarrassing good thing it was at the end of the wedding, anyways the amp went bad and started doing firework noises. I ordered the amp under warranty and received it in 3 days, keep in mind I'm in Cali.

I repaired it and sold it within days, then purchased an RCF-750 + the 310's to go along with it. I still carry a pair of Mackie 450's but they're about to be sold, as soon as I decide what stand alone tops to buy, currently I own 2 combo sets of RCF-750's and 310's.

They sound great, but again all this hype about the Dynacords, has me wondering.

Mackie is not what it used to be.

I wish I had saved all of my comments and reviews of different gear I had heard, used, or owned over the years and compiled them with complete wirth the dates I made those comments on.

It would make for some interesting reading now!

I told of the problems with powered speaker systems years ago with Peavey, Mackie, JBL and any other powered speaker system you can name.

I have made many comments about the sound quality and performance of several different brands of speakers, only to be boo hooed by many of the people who rushed out to be a part of the latest and greatest touting of the holy grail of speakers, until a new holy grail comes along (a new one comes along about every two years).

I am curious are there any here other than Fred Val/Steve and myself who have found something that truly works and satisfies their needs and sticks to it simply because it works?

That would be an interesting dialogue Thunder! We were marvelling over that ourselves at our events this past weekend. Most of our amps and speakers are old enough to vote. We haven't found a desire/need to change what works....

Yeah... there's something to be said for doing research and investing in business equipment that's proven to work over time.

In the beginning, I listened to DJs and bought entry-level. I don't do that anymore. I learned to listen to soundmen instead. I wanted the good stuff. :)

The guys who laughed at our "big, heavy" system years ago are either retiring or have retired to GSM bar shows for peanuts. They were running ADJ, Mackie and Numark stuff. One guy I knew sold his L1 rig. He couldn't justify the cost... his gigs didn't pay enough.

Not us. We're still loading the FOH and processing we started with in 2000 and making more money per show than ever before. I guess we're doing something right. :)

I'd like to add my name to that list.

I'm loading my old school stuff....And will continue to do so..

Most of my P.A.S. speakers are old enough to vote to...(i think) LOL

But when the knob gets twisted.....They Rock.

My amps aren't very old, (Qsc) But they have served me very well thus far.
and should continue to do so for the next 4 years...As there still under QSC'S
care...:sqlaugh:

A downstate dealer carries Mackie active stuff. I was in there one evening and he had it set up to play. These were big, 3-way cabs, not your 2-ways on sticks that many DJs load. I dunno what was wrong but it sounded distorted and tinny. It didn't have near the sound nor tone I'd expect from a box of that size.

Folks, we can take a pair of passive Carvin dually 15s fed with 2500 wrms and the walls shake with the thump. Just one 18" sub sounds like one of those souped-up car stereos coming up the road. And that's not even pushing it... the signal LEDs on the lows amp are still flickering.

We tend to err on the side of caution and keep the C/L set for a ceiling. But I've been known to back the limiting off a bit. That's when somebody always calls the cops. :D

Every manufacturer has failures at one time or another, so don't jump on the bandwagon just because you think they'll never fail. Get on after you have listened to a set and decide you really want to spend the money for them.
