MC6000 made the jump, what's the best configuration

sirdj

New DJ
Made the jump and got the mc6000, looks rock solid, question for the users, what is the best configurations?
4 deck
2 deck
internal mixer, etc?

I've been watching several videos but not sure exactly what would work best.

Thanks,
David

For me, the best configuration is two deck, using the internal mixer.

The "best" is subjective - find what works for you and go with it.

I use mine in two deck mode......I do weddings, not clubz.......no need for 4!

If you are going to do a lot of mixing, scratching, loops etc, then the four deck plus external mixer will be the option to use. For external mixer use though, you will need a four stereo external soundcard plus monitor outputs.

Why?

The MC6000 already has two mic inputs on it and as long as you have either wired mics or wireless mics with their gains turned down, unless you need more than two mics you don't need an external mixer.... However, if you're like me and you prefer an external mixer you still don't need a multi-channel sound card.... you can monitor your mix right on the MC6000.... unless yur like to hear your self talking.... This of course assumeing you'll only be using a PC to MC6000 as your music source.

Read carefully!
FROM YOUR LAPTOP. If you want EACH deck to have it's OWN Stereo Channel going to an External DJ Mixer (For external mixing) with an Individual Channel for each EACH deck on that External Mixer, then you will need FOUR stereo channels going out from your sound card. You can get away with two pairs if the decks are swappable like what Traktor has.

You do not need that..... not even with VDJ... the MC6000 is a multi-channel mixer.... using software as the mixer there is no need for external.... no need to over complicate....

Basic 4 deck setup be it in VDJ or Traktor does not require an external mixer, period.

Well then the Denon has to have 4 Channel capabilities internally with swappable as there are only two platters to control two pairs of decks from the Traktor software.
What it is, when you select External mixer from the Traktor preferences, you can then choose 2 or four deck output to the Denon. So I do stand corrected that you won't need a 4 stereo channel soundcard from the laptop to the Denon. I do for my MEP because it only has two deck capabilities. Plus, I use an External DJ Mixer. I can control 4 decks externally.

In 4 deck mode it is recomended to set the software to Internal Mixing.... if you use it in 2 deck mode I'd recomend external.... thus turning the MC6000 into a 2 channel midi controller with 2 external sources.... when I say set it to External mixing the mixing is done on the MC6000 vs within your program of choice... I prefer the 4 deck/Internal (software as mixer) over 2 deck/External..... it simply gives me more options for preparing music and playlists...... also giving me the ability to switch between Remix Decks, Decks, and live inputs on the fly

by using the internal mixer with 2 decks, will it still allow me to use the effects of VDJ?
Thanks for the replies.

the instruction manual obviously touches on that subject but Im sure it works fine. The 6000 is amazing.

Canute, perhaps you are not aware...
this deck is not just an audio controller, it has four physical faders built into the unit.
So there is no "external" mixer needed.

When you are configuring your software on your laptop, you HAVE to choose external mixer and soundcard otherwise you will be playing and mixing internally on your laptop

Not quite....

If you wish to use the MC6000 in 2-Deck mode and as the mixer so that you can utilize channels 1 and 4 as analogue inputs then you do set the software mixer setting to EXTERNAL and then you will be using the MC6000 as a Midi controller/Mixer. Make sure the crossfader switch is set to Video Only (for VDJ). In the case of Traktor the crossfader switch doesn't seem to matter.

If you wish to use the MC6000 in 4-Deck mode you must set the software to Internal mixing (software mixing). The crossfader then can be set either in Audio, Audio/Video or Video... it should also be noted that the LED level meter lights only work for reading your Master output in this mode. This is because you are not using the MC6000 as the mixer, you are simply using it as a controller.

Either mode does not require any other sound cards or mixers to be used, period.

Ok I've setup my mc6000 for 2 decks on internal mixer and will use the other 2 channels as aux. however In differen setups I've seen how the faders must be at all max and control the volume from the knobs? is this correct? so far I love the machine, seems very well constructed and sounds very good with the 2 deck setup. I'm testing the mic tonight and will see how it does tomorrow.
