Hey folks,

Just thought I'd share a quick update I'm playing with on my right right now. I typically offer a few different lighting options ranging from uplights, movers (which I'm about to sell), and a wash lighting solution just for the dance floor. I wanted to add a bit more eye candy to it and saw a similar fixture to these on another DJ's instagram so I decided to buy a pair and experiment with them.

They don't put out a ton of actual colored light, but they have an RBG ring around each panel. And inside each panel is an amber/white strip of LEDs that is very bright. So they work really well as a blinder effect, and also give you kind of a cool retro look that I think my couples are going to really dig.

It's tough to get the camera to show the contrast between the amber in the center and the color, but this was as close as I got:

Super rough cut video so you can see them with the room full:

Stupid videographers. They wreck the vibe of a reception with their huge, honkin bright lights. I like the look of the effect you mentioned.

I like the mounting bracket allows you to position it wherever you need it.
They're kinda like the Chauvet Core, in a different shaped, smaller fixture.
The price you paid isn't horrible, since the Core is about $600.

I deal with this all the time, doesn't even phase me anymore. The couple wants the memories. It's my job to make sure there is something fun to take video of.

It's so funny when you start looking for an effect and see it more often. Just like when you buy a car and then see a ton of them on the road.

The Iron Chef set (Netflix version) apparently has a bunch of this style fixture:

It's easier to see them in the show itself, but they have a bunch of the 7 panel fixtures as well as vertical and horizontal applications of a similar look in the show.

Ive been thinking of doing something similar to these and getting a pair of Chauvet DJ Wash FX Hex for my main dance floor lighting.

The Chauvet Wash FX is a much brigher fixture from a color throw perspective. With that light you should expect more of a flood of color, while these are more for just how they look on the stand. But I believe the Wash FX has some fun eye candy stuff built in too. But that's tougher to access their macros if you're programming the light. So it just depends how you're going to use it.
