I was referring to Full DJ Systems that are used for Dancing etc.

Yes, but you were referencing cocktail and ceremony setups, which generally don't have the same requirements.

What I was writing is that if the Cocktail is in the same room as the reception, why the need for a small system in there. I can understand if the Ceremony is elsewhere and calls for a smaller system.

The funny thing for me is lately I'm getting some requests for ceremonies were there is no power (think out in the woods). I have been offering my small battery powered setup that I use for rehearsals. And people have been wanting it, and I charge the same for that as I do for any ceremony.

I have 1 battery powered speaker (Anchor Liberty 4500). It has come in handy for remote work a few times.

I keep a deep-cell, marine battery stored behind the front seat in my van that stays hooked up to a solar panel that sits in the front window. On outdoor gigs that have no power, I just hook a 450 watt inverter to it to power the sound system. It's also a good backup in case my van battery dies and I need a jump.

Funny I was just think how could I design a battery powered solution and then you post this. Great timing!

How long are you able to run your sound system on that?

Don't know, I've never run it dry. Typical ceremony rig (1-EV Zxa1, wireless, and laptop pulls 100-150 watts. I believe I estimated it somewhere around 3-5 hours.

Here would be my solution if we needed a separate setup for a ceremony or cocktail hour. We could just use the 2 Mackie Thumps along with a controller and laptop. I know those Mackies aren't the best but they will do a good enough job for such an application. My thing is for such applications there is no need to go crazy with the volume for such applications. Just enough volume is needed so people can comfortablely hear the music.

Some think when it comes to the sound things need to be loud to impress people. It simply needs to be a good clean sound. It can be loud but if it's not a good clean sound it will sound bad.

And before anyone asks I use the elesis transactive mobiile its about 200 dollars.
If you are using Bose then stick with Bose. You can't get any more portable than this! Bose AWM. With 10 D Cells or its Battery Pack, it will run 10 Hours. I know mine does. The Batteries go in the Bottom of the carrying Case, not in the Unit itself. http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/promotions/entry_pages/awms_series_ii/awms_ii.jsp&src=DTCAWMS

That looks awseome but like said I already own this and normally just use if for ceremony rehearsals. Its great just plug in the ipod and put it on a speaker stand and bam you got it. It also comes with a wired mic. It works well for the purpose it was bought for. ) Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJTyA-duuDc for 90 percent of our ceremonies we use a Bose L1 with 1 B-1 and the sound is awesome.

Though I have used the Alesis for 2 ceremonies so far and might be 2 more this year. Both of them will be in Yosemite National Park. http://www.yosemitepark.com/

Don't ever run them below 50% -- you'll ruin the battery by dropping it's life span.

I knocked a couple of deep cells here on the Farm, because I let them go down too far. Live and learn... :-/
