I haven't been around this place in a LONG time so I'm sure this has been talked about quite a bit...sorry for any redundancy. After being a lifelong JBL guy I decided to give QSC a try and ordered a couple QSC kw152's and a single QSC kw181 sub. All I can say is I'm not sure I'll ever buy a powered JBL cabinate again! These speakers BLOW AWAY the comperable 1000 watt JBL PRX 615's (which I sold a few months ago because I wasn't happy with them) and the QSC kw sub is impressively tight and loud for such a small box. I can really hear the difference in warmth between the K series and the wood box of the KW series...the kw152's are VERY bassy for a 15" box (which is good for the current music we play these days) and love flexability of the inputs on the QSC amp. Highly recommend.

QSC has a history of making fine sounding active speakers. Their 3way (153) is one of the best all around active speaker out there.

The JBL PRX line is entry level, thats why! Have you tried the MRX and especially the SRX line?

Actually, the EONs are the entry level, the PRXs are basically a powered MRX (slight difference in compression driver - same LF, though the PRX one is dual coil). At that price point, I picked the PRX over the K-series. Now the KW is a different beast, with a different horn in them. I just didn't have the extra $500 per speaker it would have cost me. Maybe for the next round.

ahoustondj...dang man - you've gotten uptight in your old age lol!!! For active JBL gear PRX is not entry level but is considered comperable to the QSC kw series by many. I own A LOT of JBL SRX gear and love it.

LOL Ole, Cranky and cantankerous. Yep you and Steve are correct, I was thinking the JRX line, which is also considered Entry Level.

well IT IS early Hoston....good to hear from you again.
Same here! I am now on my second cup o' Java. My wits are coming back.....slowly! :)

I picked up two KW181's a little over 2 weeks ago and they are amazing fror the size and price. I also picked up two of the KLA12's to see how I liked them. I need to play with them some more, but when I stack the two together, they so far have sounded great.

I think my end goal with the QSC setup is going to be 4 KW181's and 4 KLA12's (but I am going to test 3 KLA's per side to see if 6 really will work on the extension pole or stacked on the subs, I think it really would need to be flown to get the most out of it but we shall see)

I have the entire QSC HPRi series. I've listened to the KW's, you cannot go wrong. My HPRi's have served me well. I do a lot of bigger gigs with the 181i 18' subs and the 153i 3 ways. This system kicks butt. For smaller gigs the 152i's and a single 181i go out a lot and are fairly easy to move.

You'll be well-served by the KW's. This coming from a guy that has a boatload of JBL SRX passives!

Best,

Paul

Hello,

I have 2 x SRX 715 tops and 2 x SRX 718 subs...I'm looking to go "active" and was looking at the KW181. I don't mind if I have to use 4 x KW181 per show ... what would be a great QSC (KW) top to match these subs? and how many would I need?

In a nutshell ... which KW speakers (and how many) would I need to match my JBL SRX set-up?

It sounds like you need more power not more as in quantity! You could end up with Phasing and comb filtering problems when you have "sets" of speakers in close proximity to each other. If not designed for stacking with delay etc., you are going to end up with blaring noise.
