pman had a question, and posted to some social group, of which I am not subscribed. I don't pay attention to those groups, so if you have a question in the future, just post under this forum :)

Anyway, question is:

Is there a way to edit the drop down genre lists?

No. Rockit uses the 125 or so genres in the drop list, that are pretty much standardized from Winamp years ago.

You can however, type anything you want in the genre field. Rockit will recognize it as a separate genre, and display it as such (and sort by it). But, the problem is, if you move to other software that only recognizes the standard list, and uses the old ID3 v1 stuff (integer assignment), it may come up as "Other".

Most software is ID3 V2 compliant these days (although it is not technically a standard by any official body). That means it is a text field, and not an integer assignment that is limited.

I prefer to stick with the original 125, because it is transparent across most hardware and software (in case you wanted to know) :)

Geez I never knew there was a standard, just what I see in pull-down menus.

I never use them - not specific enough.

I clarify by decade - i.e 90s Rock, 80s Dance, 50 & 60s Ballads, 2000s Urban, Country Dance 2010, etc.

And thankfully, RockIt see them all and allows me to be as anal-retentive as I wanna be. That software is an enabler!

BTW Rick, I changed the text font and sizes in a few skins - wonderful!

When I did the trail test of the program, the Genre was fine. However some of the albumns or songs that I tested with went in under song name and some went in under artisit name. Why? And would I have to go in and manually change the to be all the same way, one way or the other?

More than likely, either the tags for those songs are hosed up, or there are no tags. If there are no tags, Rockit will use the filename mask in the Library->Settings page, to parse the filename apart. You can edit that mask, if that is the case.

If the tags are hosed up, then it's probably easier to use a 3rd party tagging program like MediaMonkey or Tag&Rename, and batch tag them properly before adding into Rockit.
