Securing Trailers

One other security tidbit. Any advertising on the exterior that relates to anything DJ (in some areas of our great land) translates directly to "Good stuff inside. If you have a drug habit, and are in need of quick cash, steal me!"

That is true. Would be thieves will follow you to wherever that trailer is parked and use crowbars to bust open the hinges, locks whatever. I have a van and i don't even like stopping off, except to buy gas, on my way to or from a gig.

I've seen pictures of vans and trailers that were sliced open with something like a Cordless Metal Cutting Circular Saw.

Yeah that would be noisy but it could also happen very fast with a couple of them.

So an inner plywood wall would at least slow them down a little, an alarm system in the trailer would also be a good idea.

Thanks for all of the advice! Right now I'm looking at used trailers, but is it wiser to invest in a new on? I don't really have the money to spend on a new one, that's the problem. For the rental place, I'll see if I can work a deal with them on an enclosed unit, seeing as I would be renting for about 9-10 months a year for 4 years..

Buy a used Brinks Armored Vehicle! :sqlaugh:

Just my 2 cents....

If you want a cheap way to protect your trailer, bolt the hitch and doors shut.

Yes, its a small amount of trouble for you to get in and out but its a real issue for those who want in.

Drill thru the door to the metal seal that it seats on (around the outside of the door). Tap the seal with a 1/4-20 tap. Install a 1/4-20 bolt and snug it up.

Criminal tools usually consist of:
1) Bolt cutters
2) Hammer or something to hit with
3) Screwdrivers

If a criminal carries a set of wrenches, your going to loose it anyway.
There are very few ways to lock a ball onto a hitch and if they want it that bad, they will just unbolt the ball. You hitch lock stays on while they drive off with your ball and all.

And yes, Drax said it best when he said put an alarm on it.
