I recently saw Dude's latest article in DJ news.

I read the first few paragraphs, found it offensive but skipped ahead to a another giving the author the benefit of the doubt - but all earned the paper a prompt toss into the fireplace.

Drawing an analogy to terrorism as a way to support Dude's apparent 'peeve' with other DJs is both tasteless and disrespectful.

Many thousands of people have been killed by terrorism, and many thousands more continue to die fighting it.

Why not thank God for the biggest problem he's sent you being a Disc Jockey with lower prices?

Just A Suggestion

If this is to be a valid debate, in which everybody may participate (perhaps it is not, which is why this is just a suggestion), then could the article be posted here?

If allowed...

Bob,

There is a correlation to the two subjects.

Have you never head the term "economic terrorisim"?

This is one of the things the terrorists had in mind on 9/11. Not only hit the twin towers, but throw our country (and the world for that matter) into economic chaos. Hitting the heart of "financial center" of the USA.

While it may be a "touchy" comparison and it may not be a "politically correct" in your point of view, it none the less has merit.

There are many articles on the internet available. One can say, (ok, several have said) in a way Walmart creates economic terrorism by creating lower paying "jobs" and running other business out of town.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Perhaps you have some comparisons between Walmart and Nazi Germany, too?

Yes! The variety amongst all the styles of Walmart clothing is roughly as wide a spectrum as the variety of clothing that all the Nazis wore!

No Walmart for you!!!

Hey, if Dude's article created this much controversy......then that's good for the DJ News.

(note that I'm on the West Coast and haven't got my issue yet.....but I haven't opened my mail box since last Friday....)

Bob . . .

Shame on you for letting your personal dislike for one of the author's opinions ruin an entire publication's worth for you. If you don't like what Dude (or any of the other authors has to say) then don't read it. But please do not discount the entire thing because of one article.

Why not be proactive if you have such a problem with the article and write a letter to the editor?

Amber,

Since I have access to the author right here - I let him (and others) know directly that I think his comparison is distasteful, offensive, and misguided.

"Ignore" is not the responsible thing to do here. It needs to be rebutted publicly and proudly by anyone who honors the lives of innocents lost, and defenders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Free speech does not earn anyone a criticism pass for paralleling their petty "peeves" with the extreme philosophy of hate and murder.

The comparison of Dude's minor business woes to that of terrorism is offensive.

Guys,

Some publications express the opinions and views of leadership and are often given long rein's in expressing views and opinions they agree with. Complaining will often get you no where if leadership is in agreement, remember ALL editorial is reviewed, proofed and authorized for print prior publication. Unlike online forms such as DJChat - Look at Imus and his recent rants - the leadership wears blinders then justifies itself by minimizing others who do complain. I agree sometimes expressed views lack compassion for others views, however conflict seems to be a driving force for a few.

Speaking of industry blinders I'll give you a good example - If you view the list of 'INDUSTRY" events listed in the mentioned rag - Then view our list of industry events here: http://www.computerdjsummit.com/events.html you can see an instant view of censorship :sqwink:

I wouldn't get worked up over such an article if I ever read the rag - Mobile Beat and DJ Times offer some great periodicals and you may find one of them better suited for your reading style - Good Luck

OK, I just found my copy......in the P.O. Box as expected.

I don't see why the fuss.....it would be akin to someone getting insulted by "What Would Jesus The DJ Do?" (popular xmas-season article).

The "economic terrorism" analogy is well-placed. Granted, it *could* evoke some bad feelings in an East Coaster (where the 911 twin tower disaster was more deeply felt). I live on the West coast, and the terrorism metaphor doesn't strike a nerve with me....

Dude's analogy to the school administration being like terrorists...makes a lot of sense......Terrorists are people who have one set of rules apply and then contradict them. FOR EXAMPLE: They require every janitor, teacher, and other persons who work on school campus to be fingerprinted. Why not the DJs too? They require every contractor who intalls HVAC or does repair work to have liability insurance! Why don't they require this from DJs?

If District Regulations were properly enforced, persons hired to entertain on school campuses would be subject to the same fingerprinting, licencing, and insurance regulations as all hired help like lunch ladies, teacher's aids, custodians, etc...... When that day comes (only after some child or children is/are molested by a DJ).....expect prices for School Dances to finally increase to marketable levels!!!

I remember when the earthquakes hit your coast I actually donated money to Red cross for support - I honestly believe all coasts feel for the disparage of others - It's called humanity and is shared from coast to coast.

Here in Florida individuals contracted to do school events are finger printed and background checked prior being contracted for youth events - BUT - If you have ever watched the television show "To Catch A Predator" the majority have NO record and could have gained access to school events passing the same scrutiny as us - The program gives a FALSE sense of security - Prevention with an established plan to monitor all events is needed -

I pray no child is EVER molested by a DJ!

Matt, use some common sense. No matter how awful you find a school administrator to deal with - they do not dedicate themselves to killing people. You are not going to get your throat cut by the vice principal, and losing a few bucks in the market place is not comparable too losing your life, or the lives of those defending you.

I'm not concerned about the paper, it's editors, or publisher. I'm just taking one small moment in time to stand up and say: "it's not 'okay' to equate tough DJ competition with murder and genocide."

Having this program in Florida..... is good news for DJ companies who are willing to jump through the hoops.

Those who don't.....are criminals, tax cheats, and others who want to keep their miserable bottom-feeding selves off the radar screen.

I hope Governor Schwartzenegger here in Calif, implements a similar program......but he's too busy dealing with our worsening state prisons!!!

I dont think the program will catch tax cheats, because it does background and fingerprinting on the individuals, not a busiess background check (ie. licensing and other things).

Isnt that correct?

Matt sad story though in Florida for some areas even when requiring the finger printing the schools still want to pay 400 per event. In the end once again. The kids lose. Oh and by the way are you gonna be doing Allies prom or not? You didnt seem to be 100% sure before?
