Speaker Brands!

djMarco

New DJ
I read a lot of Threads here and somehow figured out that almost all of us use speakers with a big name on.Most used speakers here are(not in order):EV,RCF,Yorkies,Fbt,CV,Bose,Mackies,JBL,QSC,B52,Peavy...
Nothing wrong with that but i was wondering what happend to the other BIG brands?
Here are examples:
EAW-I heard them only once but sounds werry good
Turbosound-My first subs was Turbosound(kicks ass)
Outline-Best Italyan thing after Pizza
D.A.S-Best Spain speakers. My friend have a pair and they are realy good

.......................................................................................................

I think there are more but only few people use them.
Any idea why?
Is something wrong with marketing or is price to high?

I do a lot of resarch and find a lot of info on theyre Websides but i like to hear some info from expirience from real life.

Does anybody have expirience with this Brands???

Hey Marco Cam uses Turbo Sound but the ITalian and Spain products we dont see over here. Some reason EAW has eluded the DJs here at the mobile level. Known but not used and used mostly in clubs.

Only for example-Eros Ramazzoti used EAW on one of his European tour. Before that he was using Mayer Audio like Pavarotti.

Of course I forget to mention few Brands like:Martin Audio,Dynacord...

EAW's are still being used in high end club applications, for the clients willing to spend the money I will almost always put in a bid with that system. I believe the EAW speakers are usually a little more on the heavy side, not always good for mobile applications. I'm seeing EV more and more in install situations vs. mobile applications.

About a year or so ago the former company I worked with installed the EAW Avalon series in a large night club in Venton, Lousianna. http://www.eaw.com/products/speakers/club/index.html Those subs had some serious kick! (Took 4 people just to move one sub)

I guess with most mobiles going with powered tops, it does not leave much room for EAW. I love EAW speakers. Passive RCF's and powered Yorkvilles are keeping me happy for now.

I had an EAW sub once, it was about the size of a washing machine, but man it did shake the walls.

You know what is funny? I have a buddy whose brother is a gem sound rep. When I asked him ( the brother ) about using his speakers for ceremonies, and tiny gigs, he actually steered me away.... This was in 2005.

They're the equivalent of the old Yugo's or the Soviet made Lada in the automotive world :D:D:D

I have a $39.00 RCA boombox that presents better tone than GemSound and Pyramid cabinets.

One thing to bear in mind ~ many mobile DJs are notoriously tight with a dollar when it comes to business equipment. Bar and club owners can be just as bad. :(

I covered a dance show for a local compadre some years ago in a Legion venue. Off to the side of the stage they had a complete Pyramid DJ system. I didn't even know that the Pyramid logo was put on speaker cabs. But there it was. Home stereo bass drivers and piezo horn drivers in pro cabinets.

I've seen DJs and bands rock the house with Cerwin Vegas. You can get some good tone out of CVs.

Many of the upper-echelon brands like Turbo and EAW aren't seen in many mobile DJ's rigs because they "cost too much". :)

I sold my powered Mackie's and went the old fashioned route. I love my amps and racks big butt speakers. If I was a mobile DJ the powered stuff might be better health wise but since I'm not I'll keep my boat anchors and lifeboats :D:D:D:D:D

That is kind of funny to me.. I loved the Turbos, even when I heard them in GC. But they were about $2500 for a pair with a sub. I thought that that was too much..... I spent about $900 on passive JBL's, IIRC.

Now, look what I paid..... :sqerr::rofl:

My rig is a no-nonsense pro level rig.

Most people have never heard of P.A.S. (Professional Audio Systems)
But it's good stuff. (B&C 2" HF's and a 4"V/C 15 in a coaxial set-up)

About $1,400 a box
Double 18's $1,100 a box.

The processing for the rig $2,500

Add about $3,500 worth of QSC's for lot's of headroom

It has a great tone, (used for live sound all the time) and i've used it in really small bars, to my weekly 14,000 Sq Ft super bar, to outdoor gigs.

The end result??? they all comment..."Wow, it sound's soo nice, and clear"

People ask me "What band is playing tonight"???:sqwink:

The Turbosound's TXD series is quite reasonable in price. I love mine. Even with a Bose My Turbos will continue to see their 5 night a week of work. I will replace this system next year. Hopefully by then Turbo will get their USA distorbution figured out.

I know a few guys that have used EAW. They are heavy and better suited for install. I do wnat to think that they do have some sort of smaller line that isn't as heavy.

As far as the other brands???

Community makes some nice high end speakers. They also make some really crappy ones.

db Technologies has some active stuff that is amazing like a 2000 watt dual 18"

Danley Sound Labs is all more touring, I'm not sure if they have a smaller consumer line.

There is a bar here that has Radian Audio installed and it sounds really good in there.

Grund Audio They are really cheap but I'd buy them before Behringer or Gen Sound.

SLS Audio seem to be very nice speakers I'd like to hear them. Some cutting edge technology like Dynacord.

Renkus-Heinz Ran into a DJ a few weeks ago that had this brand. I never heard of them. I think they sound as good as the other Powered speakers on the market. (QSC, Yorkville)

Alto - This is Yorkvilles entry level gear. It's not bad.

Cam,

Alto is a Italyan Brand.Maybe Yorkwille only distribute them for US and Canada market.

The same story is with Yorkwille in Europe-They are distributed by Bayerdinamic.
