This is a big purchase for a Mac guy

and a guy who never thought he would get a Lappy for DJing.

Sounds like a great machine if you plan on using it for performances I'd keep it offline and 86 the virus protection.

I just added more memory and a faster processor to my Dell laptop that I use for Djing and I also got rid off all the excess crap that is not needed and it works even better than when I first brough it.

I second that emotion...

If yer gonna touch the internet with it, get ESET Anti Virus or Smart Security. Hands down, the fastest, least intrusive AV software on the market. You only scan your computer once, and it runs in the background from then on -- almost totally written in assembler code, and uses very little memory. It's a proactive program, not a reactive one
