What is your referral reward? Anything?

Currently, I send a Thank You card and a $25 gift card to anyone the refers me a wedding. I send the card after the completion of the wedding.

I have had referral's that were before someone had used my service. Example a Bide has a wedding booked and she tells her friend to use my services for her wedding. In that case I send a card with a note after her friend signs a contract and give the bride $50 off her wedding.

I'm actually considering some advertising for free DJ services by completing X number of referrals.

"............................. A Newwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Carrrrrrrr"

obligatory cross promotion...

Sending thank you cards, see Dave Windsor.

I give gift cards to those who refer but previously ran a special telling prospective brides they could recover part of their entertainmrnt fees by referring as I was giving them 75 dollars for every completed and referred gig by them. I found atleast in my area after trying this for one yr though it sparked interest. Those who were referring would refer anyhow regardless. I might ressurect it and try again as it did seem to help with gaining connection to a prospect.

I don't pay or accept a "refferal fee" it rubs me the wrong way....

hire me because you like what I do, not because I'm giving you a kick-back...

Not usually,, I always tell them no,,,, but I don't want to be rude...

But that is also a different deal..

Referral Fee.

Think about this for a moment. If you had a company with products to sell. You also have a Commissioned Sales force to solicit new business. Won't you have to pay a commission to your sales force when they bring in new business? Do you call that payment a kick back? Hell, no!
Back in the late 80s to early 90s, I used to have a manager of a nice restaurant with a function/banquet room feed me new leads all the time, especially for the Christmas Holidays. Whenever she booked the room she would ask the client if they already had a DJ. If the answer was "No", she would then give them my card and also ask them permission for me to call them. If they did not call by days end, the next morning I was on the phone calling them. I literally got 100% of those leads to hire me. I gave her 10% commission.
That in my opinion is not a kickback. Because she got payment for her efforts, she promoted me vigorously and we both benefited.

Ever heard the phrase "Whats in it for me", that should apply to both of you. Look at the savings and benefits. Less dollars spent on advertising, maybe a venue that would become a regular place to do your gigs, good rapport with the staff there etc.
I even went so far as to to do a discounted price to the restaurant for their weekly Sunday Brunches which again gave me more exposure from the Restaurant's clients. When people approached me to inquire about my services, I called the manager to talk to them about the Banquet room. I usually accepted a free dinner for my efforts
I do not see a damn thing wrong with that, I did what worked for me. Quit nit picking everything to the bone about whats not ethitcal. To me a kickback or bribe is when you are paying someone for something that can be construed as illegal or violating company's policies.

Past clients get $25 and a heart felt thank you.
Other vendors get $100 as well as reciprocal referrals and free links on my web site. I am currently getting $10 a month for links on my site from other vendors.

Thank you for the referral is all that should be needed and all I would expect.

My sentiments exactly: I gave them a good price when I did their wedding....what goes around comes around....... Many B/G's will give me referral business instead of a gratuity!
