No pole cup, so they'd have to be mounted in a different way.

Also, the freq range bottom is down 10db at 80Hz, so they would need to be matched to a sub that can go pretty high (guessing at least to 120 or so Hz) .. probably a smaller 12" one. No issues with 2" transducers, as that's what's in the EVOX 8 tops .. it's matching it with the rest of a system and dialing it in that might take work.

150 watts, 111 SPL. 89db music sensitivity. Aren't these kinda anemic specs? My QSC K10s are 1000 watts with 129 spl.
2 completely different speaker sets,,,, almost apples to oranges! Rated with different measurements! The max spl on the JBL is average of a very wide bandwidth! The most stringent test used more in the high fidelity world! Look at the dispersion 150 degrees! Wow I bet the k10's can do that! No my friend the specs on these drivers are pretty impressive!

Yes, I am always looking for something different? They would definitely be used with a sub!

I am almost certain that with their 70v rating and outdoor ratings these are speakers that are meant for permanent installs... not for mobile purposes that operate at 120v. I've personally seen speakers like these installed in conference rooms for speaking purposes. Someone with more knowledge on these type of speakers and installs can provide more insight, especially with the voltage ratings, but I do NOT think these are what you should be looking at. If you're looking for that column look.. rcf evox 12 might be a better option.

They are meant for permanent installs, though they do have an 8 ohm setting so they CAN be used as he wants. I assume they sound fine for the purpose, but have never listened to them.

The issues are matching it to a bass system (since these are meant primarily for speech and background music) and physically mounting them somehow so they don't look like FrankenSpeakers.

I agree that the EVOX 8 or 12 (8 is a closer match) or similar units would be easier to manage as a system.

Another option is the dB Tech Ingenia series .. INGENIA - dBTechnologies

Yea, just an idea. I'll,probably just break down and buy some k12's. I'll just have to reach deep, into my pockets, might as well go for the .2's For 200 bucks more! I don't think the original k12's will go on clearance!

Have you looked at Alto speakers? If I had it to do over, I'd probably buy them instead of my K10s.

Take away the price we wouldn't even be looking at the speakers for Dj applications. At 9 pounds, fiberglass, outdoor rating and very low maximum SPL of 117 they are clearly meant to be mounted outdoor permanently like in your backyard or outdoor space at a restaurant .

Yes I have a pair of ts212, I like them a lot. Do you think that the extra money for the k series (which seem to be the best selling most highly rated powered top) is not worth?????? Man I have been asking myself that same ? For the last 3 weeks!

Because i have 1,000 dollars ready to pull the trigger on a second pair of powered tops. Not enough for the k series,,,,but surely enough for another pair of Alto's. But I have 1200 $ worth of shows this month.

I was looking at the replacement components of both of these speakers on Full Compass. The k series uses a way more pricey set of components. Which in this business doesn't always mean better, but most of the time when the price is 3 or 4 times as much it usually means better!

The only complaint that I have for my altos is I wish they had more power! When I use them for rear fill at my dances I find that by the end of the night they are bumping the clip lights. I turn them Down a bit only to find that a little alter they are bumping again.

During Mardi Gras last year. My son was putting on a show with my big set. I rented out the rest of my set to the parade float staging area. So I did a small music play for a friend with nothing but the Altos on stands and a little peavey 6 mixer. I found that as the day went on,,,, it was warm outside,,,, 5 hours of playing,,,,,they starting clipping more and more. They got tired!

I like them though,,,, but I am looking for something a little more robust. So I think I will go for the .2 k series probably the 12's. so that I can use them as some main tops and standalone also.

I was wondering why the Alto's don't make the powered speaker shootouts? If you look up powered pa comparison on the net. Berlinger makes it and peavey makes it. I'll bet the Alto's could beat out those 2! Although in some of them under 500,,,,the peavey dark matter is no 1? Hmmmmm?

I think that the Alto's were worth every penny of 600$ Love them!

Have you tried them?
Rick, that is good advice about the Altos's. I can probably guess that you did a side by side comparison of the k's and the Altos. I'll bet the outcome was like mine,,,,, hey they sound pretty close. But I bet if someone put them in a harsh environment (outside) and pushed them to the same levels of performance..... not (set to kill) but on ( ass kicking) I would like to see if the Altos could hold up! One of the things I would like to see on the Altos is a cooling fan!

Again, I love my Altos! Best 600$ investment of my set. And I have made my money back on them through rentals. I have played these things in the last year more than any other speaker in my trailer! I brig them out to parties and the park, bar-b-ques, volleyball games.

I would recommend these Altos to any dj! You must get a pair. Maybe just not you main pair,,imo.

If I had it to do again, I would have bought 4 of the Altos. They have just as much air as the K10s do and a lot more punch.

Now that is a thought,,,,, I was going for that. 4 running half throttle is more powerful than 2 running hard...... yes. I could even buy 2 more pair for less, and run 3 pairs! That might just keep up,with my 4 18 cabs.

That would entice me to get the 10's ! 4 tens would blast! Because on my large set I run 4 dual 18 cabs, 2 dual 15 for mids and those 2 sets of tens on top for highs would be perfect!

I haven't heard the 12's against the 10's. have you!

No, I haven't but I'd get 12s. I'd probably buy 4, but only setup 2 for most gigs. You could have the spares for ceremony or large venue duty. 4 of those run $1200. My 3 K10s set me back $2000.

I have herd them. Obviously need a sub but i was not impressed with them at all. Buy a evox or l1 system and never look back.
