So how did Dubya retain the office when it was found that he lost the election a few months after he assumed office? ... Either way, when it was found that Bush lost ( if you don't know this please do your own research- that way you won't have to waste thread time), it was never publicly announced and he stayed in office.
Sorry, Charlie -- It's the Electoral College that counts.
A simple Google search reveals:

2000 Presidential Election
Electoral Vote Totals
* George W. Bush and Richard Cheney received 271 Electoral Votes
* Albert Gore, Jr. and Joseph Lieberman received 266 Electoral Votes

Bush received the Electoral College votes from 30 states (271 votes)
Gore received the Electoral College votes from 21 states (266 votes)
Both sides of the pond agree.
