I am currently looking to add a inexpensive light effect to my show during open dancing. It seems that nothing new has been brought fourth by the brand name DJ lighting companies since Covid. There are some junky newer chinese lights on Amazon, but none of them interest me. I want Something that is different from the effects my 4 in 1 does, and I don't want any moving head lights for this.

A local retailer has a couple of these lights from 2020 left in stock, and they are marked down to $102.95 from $139.99. I am considering buying one or both.
It is the same as the Chauvet Line Dancer.
What do you think of this effect? Is it worth buying to try? Or is this a lousy effect in your opinion?

May work well with fogger that I haven't used in years. Maybe sweet sixteen event, not a reception.

Why are you wanting to add this? Will it generate more revenue? Or make your set up easier, these are the first two questions I ask before I make any business purchase

Want to have another effect to switch to. Just one more effect to use during open dancing that is a change from what my 4 in 1 ADJ Boombox does.

Something compact, easy to set up.

I have a ADJ Starburst, but probably going to sell it for whatever I can get for it. The menu screen is broke, and it's stuck in one color (White) and at 1 speed. I don't want to buy another one. I feel another one will break in a year or 2 like the last one did. A lot of these lights are cheaply made. Circuit Boards go out in them, or the menu screens malfunction.

Are there any late model DJ light Effects that any of you would recommend as worth buying at the moment that is also available to buy?

What you have is fine until you’re ready to step up to DMX and some higher end lighting, I use the spin and like style lighting like your for most of my lower end events, in reality they all kinda do the same thing in a different way. It more about having lights at that point than what they do I have dozens of old LED effects lights around, my go to is 4 adj hex pars on a stand with a hex par controller and a trispherion for a mirror ball effect, i long ago gave up getting a new light just to get a new light

Unless something breaks my light buying days are over at least for now but I will go against the grain here if I had a 4 in 1 as my main light I would but 2 of these at that price to run with the 4 in 1

Well, you all are correct that adding a new light effect will have ZERO impact on earning more money. I was only considering it because I see my same light show at every event. The guests at each event have never seen it before, so it's new to them.

I am just trying to add some more flavor to the dance floor with minimal additional set up and tear down time.

Saying that, I just had my finalization phone calls for my next two events.

This Saturday: 50th birthday party. The Clients are having Casino Table games brought in, and there will be no dance floor. So no dancing. They don't care if I bring lights or not since they don't anticipate dancers. I am more or less there just to play background Top 40 music through out the event and keep it upbeat.

Sat. Oct. 7th. Wedding. The Couple has elected "No Lights" on my panning form. So there will be no lights on that event any way.
I am still waiting on a completed planning form for October 8th wedding.

As for my other lights in my collection at the moment, I have:

-ADJ Inno Pocket Spots - These lights are only truly good at certain venues. If the ceiling is too low, they are underwhelming. If the ceiling is too high, and it's a big room, the lights just get lost. They don't work well in tents either. Because of this, I have not even used them in 5 years. I just listed them for sale on eBay to see if there is any interest in buying the lights with bag. If there is, I will sell them. If there is no interest at a price worth selling, then my son said he wants them
-Chinese Moving head wash lights - These lights can make sense to use along with my 4 in 1, but I am not taking the time or dealing with setting up my truss to use them. Hanging them upside down on a T Bar takes an additional 11 to 13 minutes to attach brackets, and get them situated, then additional time for tear down, so honestly I don't want to do that either. I would essentially be placing them on my table, and then they aren't very useful if the dancers are near my table blocking the lights from hitting the ceiling much. I just don't see them being worth bringing without setting them up on a stand which why cause extra work for myself?
-Two Chauvet DJ Banks - These are cheap effects and I really only use them for something like an 80s retro event.
ADJ Starburst - Only works at 1 speed and the color white. I would only ever use it at a Disco Theme Party. - I would sell this light, BUT I don't think it's even worth selling. I would have to list it as being broken and doubt anyone would pay over $50 for it.

What I offer to my clients is the 4 in 1 OR a basic color wash over the dance floor which essentially is either 2 LED bar lights, OR 2 of my LED battery powered Par Lights on my speaker stands. Most clients that Want lighting choose the 4 in 1. Only 2 have even chose the Color Wash option.

I have to agree with above. It's hard seeing the same light setup over and over and often times has been the spark to me buying more. I just think this effect you mention won't do much for an event unless there is fog or haze being used.

if it doesn't make you money or improve the quality of service to fit in line with your price point, it is not needed. Prior to the pixel tube lights which I bought in 2021, I hadn't bought ANY lights since 2012 when I bought my moving heads and uplights.
#Preach. I just took the plunge and bought 8 tube lights and 2 more heads to go on totems. Very pleased and excited for what is to come. I try and stay ahead of the game regarding other DJs around me. I'm flattered when they try to mimic me after I've had these setups for over a year.

Just had the finalization phone call with my October 8th couple. They do not want my 4 in 1 light effect show. The groom doesn't like the light patterns and designs from the Gobo Effect part. However, The bride asked if I had a Mirror Ball type of effect. She would dig that. No mirror ball, but I do have the ADJ Starburst...stuck in one speed lol. So anyway, I will take that out of storage and try to use it on Sunday's wedding.

So every couple is different when it comes to their thoughts on lighting effects at their wedding.
