I also downloaded KraMixer. It's better than Mixxx in some ways, but I don't see any way to make a playlist or for it to automix a playlist. I had a problem with Mixxx using the autoDJ feature so I don't know if they DID perfect the program?

Sure Rick Ryan presents the wow and awe with his text live/ uplights/Bose and his DMX lighting show but with simply running Winamp with no soundcard proves that some can simply sell other than DJ Skills. Go figure.Sorry Rick no offense intended for what you do.

Jon, it seems to me that skill in sales and promotion are the most important ones in this business and most others I've seen. The sizzle seems to be as important or even more important than the steak.

My Uncle could sell you the garbage you threw out last night for more than you paid for it new. Im not able to accept that whoring effort.

The idea of how wonderful something will be is often much better than the actual experience and enjoyment of it. The anticipation of Christmas is often enjoyed much more than the actual celebration of the holiday . . .

In my case, it pains me that I have something of great value, but the struggle to get it out there to people who can enjoy it is exasperating. I know from the reaction of those who attend my shows that there is great enjoyment and appreciation, but marketing and selling my shows has been a challenge and frustrating. In my case the reality is commensurate with the sales lore. The steak is indeed as tasty as the salesman makes it out to be . . .

see told ya, a one post wonder!

That's the beauty of internet forums. The OP may be gone, but someone else may benefit from the information-like me for instance.

I found out about KRA and the Mixxx is still around and has been improved. I've looked at a bunch of DJ program demos and I only liked one that costs money and that's DJMixPro. If I ever start doing regular DJing then I'll buy it. Until then, Spider Player is good enough and now maybe KRA can fill some gaps although It doesn't seem to be able to make or use a playlist.

Hi all. Thanks for all your posts. I wanted to allow some time to see what would be posted & then mother nature sent a little distraction my way in the form of 20" snow. I've been a DJ longer than I care to admit.. more on that on my website if your interested: http://suiteaudio.com/history.php. I've been out of it for a while, but I've been asked to do a benefit this weekend and wanted to try the laptop, as well as bring the old standby CDs. I might even bring a turntable & some vinyl for ha-ha's! :triwink: Again, thanks. I'll try to check back more frequently in the future. 'doc'

doc rock, it might take a little while to get your music into your laptop and then to learn computerized DJ software. It will take more than a few minutes. Once you learn how to use the software it's pretty nice IMO. If you want ultra simple and free as you mentioned, try Spider Player.

Honestly I have used nearly every DVS out there, every time the same software rises to the top for me, Traktor Scratch Pro.
But thats me.
Virtual DJ is solid too but very very very limited.

Some people don't like it because it can be very intimidating. Lots of bells and whictles not to mention the four decks. I too love it. I have tried some of the others but some lack lots of the features that are standard in Traktor.

INdeed, but yet nearly every user of other DVSs on a professional level hates on Traktor users just for that lol
It's the 4 Decks, Quantising, Custom Beatgriding, Beatport Integration, and 4 decks plus Hardware Samplers that keep me with traktor, if another company could match that then I may change my mind.
That said I have been using Ableton Live recently and yeah it too can be very intimidating.

Hi WoZ!
After reading comments form you and others here, my little consensus led me to downlaod & try Virtual DJ. I had a drive with lots of tunes so had it up and running in no time. Very easy to pre -select, select and mix as you know, and that's pretty much all I need for now. Seems very solid, and happy to say the on-board sound card in my Acer sounds just fine. I need to explore if I can setup play lists next.. do you know if possible? I WILL check out Spider, thanks:tribiggrin:

I agree, Traktor then and Traktor Pro now is what I personally use. I have Virtual DJ on my machine but don't use it, its there if a guest DJ wants to play.

H....... the on-board sound card in my Acer sounds just fine.

How are you planning on getting stereo out plus independent headphone cueing? If all you need is one stereo out and one headphone out then lots of guys are using this soundcard (There are other models).

Traktor sounds awesome! It's on my check-out list for sure. Being very new to using DVSs I must say that even Virtual is great. Just the freedom to have to hunt / load / cue from CDs is huge. thanks!

I'm also finding VDJ a nice program...although I'm not spending as much time working with it as I'd like, it does have some very nice advantages over alot of other software programs. And, it's been extremely FAST & STABLE on all of my computers (laptops & desktop) which is very important.
