    Prices?!

I completely agree with Scott; it's tough to define a price because of the varying factors involved. Be open minded to accepting useful criticism and strive to always put your best effort forth. Focus on "you"; and don't get all wrapped up over what someone else is charging, or doing, or not...

    Tip Jar?

To each their own, I guess. I dont do bar, or club, gigs; primarily wedding, anniversary, and private party events. I wouldnt put one out at any event I do. I got a $200.00 tip at a wedding last weekend simply by keeping the B&G happy and smiling.

Bring your own table/or ask for one

All we need is space and power. We always bring our own four foot table, with a cover. My rack doesnt take up a lot of space on it, and it leaves me a little "work space" for whatever I need. A two foot wide rack on the venue supplied eight foot table looks absurd, IMO.

What do you use: Serato, Virtual Dj or other ?

RockIt here....tried a couple of others and found them to be a waste of money...I like RockIt, I know how to use, it's stable, and the couple times I've had a question, I find an actual human on the other end of the call, and I don't have to press 1 for Engrish.

Requests in the last 15 minutes of a Wedding Reception

Same here...I'll "take" it, but it's a 50/50 bet as to whether it will get played.

    Is this my competition...really? (sigh)

I see one routinely in my area who drives an old pickup truck and advertises (on the side in handwritten paint) that he will "trade DJ services for scrap metal". I also have a "new" DJ in the area who advertises "over 40 years combined experience", uses orange and yellow extension cords, uses a...

    Kudos to Softjock Rick...

We do an alumni weekend every year for a high school which involves two dances, dinners, etc. between Friday night and Sunday morning. I had an issue with my main computer that runs Rockit 5 on Thursday afternoon; my backup computer has 4 on it but I prefer 5. To make a long story short, I...

Weddings Venue charging electric fee (WTF)

Should Val even be allowed to partake in this conversation...LMAO...I can understand a venue being scared of their electric bill when she shows up!!!

Weddings Venue charging electric fee (WTF)

Sounds like just one more way to scam someone out of their money. Appears to be a great way to scare away business though...

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you...

But again Mike....the stuff we hear on the radio is what "someone" thinks we should be hearing. I personally find half the stuff on the radio all crap...no matter if it's pop or country. I've heard better stuff in some roadside dives than I hear on country radio; I played in country bands for...

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you...

Oh, no argument on the hit count Wes. But to me, it is still subjective; just like all music, it depends on what "we, me, you, I," like. Heck, I'm willing to bet this girl sells a pile of singles of that song....and laughs all the way to the bank.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you...

I caught wind of this "worst" song while surfing a while back and gave it a listen. I've got to stick with my opinion that everything being judged "best" and "worst" is still nothing more than a matter of opinion. This girls' got millions of hits on her video and someone decides it's...

    Who built your website?

I did mine...the first couple were with some basic templates and the current DJ site has a little flash in it. Happy with what we've got, for what we have tied up in it.

    Payday

I "pretty much" leave it up to the customer but they more than understand early in our discussions that if they wait "until the day of", then I only take cash and the button doesn't get pushed to "play" until the cash is in my hand. FWIW, I've only had one incident where it went to that point...

We have had 28, but that included ring bearers, flower girls, and a junior bridesmaid.

    Looking for a song...

LOL...I don't judge their standards, they're paying me to play it. Local music stores and the Best Buy etc is an hour away from me. And guys...I wasn't looking for what "you" would tell the client, or how you would handle it. My customer asked if I could play that song and I told them I...

Key word there was "might".... I've never done it, never will do it, and don't know of anyone who has....but I have read about it. I have located the song though and should be all set for their wedding!!

    Looking for a song...

They don't have a copy of it...I told them I did not have it either but would see if I could find it. There is a version on youtube though...might end up going that route.

    Looking for a song...

I guess I should have clarified a bit more...LOL...I'm looking for the mp3 or wav of that song that I can download. No kidding...booked a wedding yesterday that's taking place this coming Saturday and that song is a "must play".
