OK, so I mentioned before that I am doing a free community day tomorrow. The township called me today to make sure I was good to go for tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be pretty good and my contact said that all indications are that at least 10K people will attend, but possibly up to 15K.

In preparation for that I decided to give Halloween bags of goodies away, and each bag has 1 of each of my 3 business cards..... kids events, adult events, and my travel forum. I made up about 300 bags, and have about 500 pcs. of extra candy.

I also have things like matchbox cars, earbuds, and $5 Five Below gift cards to give away to contest winners. I made up some gift certificates for 10% off my normal prices for DJ events. I also have a few tie die kits to pass out to contest winners.

I will have my wife and kids gathering email addresses all day. I had 3000 business cards printed for this weekend, and hope to give away at least 500 of them.

Granted, not everybody will be seeing me perform at once, but this will EASILY be the most people that will have ever seen me DJ in a single day. I am listed on the flier for the event, and have already booked a BBQ party from the exposure, so at the very least, my costs for the day are covered.

I hope it all goes great. As long as the weather holds up, I expect it will.

Papa, I think you will do well. Good luck with it.

Well, it went "OK". BY no means was it all I had hoped it would be. Still, I am pretty sure at least a few bookings will come from the day. The weather was not great, as it was really windy, and they put me far closer to a stage where bands were playing than they said they were going to.

Glad to hear it went OK Papa and good to see you around again :)

In my experience from events like you described you have to be very demanding with the organizers sometimes or you get put to the side.

To the point where the lady in charge said to me "we paid a lot of money for those bands, and we won't have you competing with them for sound"..... Of course they had 20,000 watts, and I was running a Fender Passport so, no, not likely I could compete. I would not do that event again if I was paid double my normal rates. We were put next to a baseball field, and the dirt kept blowing up on us.

BTW, as a funny aside, I was putting 3 pcs of candy in each bag..... well, one of them must have only had 2 pcs, and a mom came up to complain that her one son's bag only had 2, and could we give her another piece of candy? I told her that no, she was supposed to get 2 pcs, and I guess she got lucky by getting an extra piece in one of the bags, LOL. Seriously, people worry about crap like that?

How is that funny?
Rather than admit a mistake - you lied, and were arrogant.
The joke is that you think she looks petty.

Unless he advertised it as 3 pcs of candy or sold it as 3pcs of candy .. it's just a bag with 2pcs. When someone basically demands, free of charge, to give them more of something they weren't "entitled" to, I think it was appropriately handled.

In my opinion, a mother complaining about the amount of free candy her kid received is funny.

So is your response.

Hey Bob I'm just curious are you a baiting asshole in real life or just here? I figure it's just here because if you treated people like this in real life you'd have had your head knocked off by now

IMO, People that talk the toughest on chat boards are probably painfully shy and avoid confrontation in real life at all costs, which probably cost them many relationships.

So they compensate by being " tough" on a computer.

Just my opinion.

Or he could just be an a$$hole.

He already said: "I put 3 pieces in each bag" - so, now one kid who notices he only has 2 gets upset ( as little kids ALWAYS DO) - and when the mom seeks an easy solution to the disparity - he turns arrogant and lies - but, it doesn't end there either. It's SO big a deal he's got go online and blame HER for noticing his error.

He was INVITED to participate in a community event, and every step of the way has been ungrateful about it - right down to the last little piece of penny candy. "Me, me, me.... you're all so lucky I'm here."

Just here Jeff - no where else can you find people who set about giving away free candy and then get bent when someone with a young child asks if they can have one more.

LOL ... and here I was thinking you had no ability to self-reflect.

So, Dr. Phil - what does Wikipedia say about people who's confrontation style is to psycho-analyze everyone?

Once again, Proformance has it wrong. I was not at all happy to be asked to pay $65 to be their entertainer, but I was just fine with doing it for free. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have. As far as the candy goes, and I don't know if this was true for the bag she got, but in lieu of a 3rd pc of candy, some kids got little things like spider rings, or these plastic frogs that could be made to jump by using your thumb. In any case, I do find it "funny" in a strange way that people would worry about a 5 cent piece of candy.

I will also say that I know for a fact that I gave one girl a bag of candy, but 5 minutes later her mother came up and told me that I didn't give her one. I gave her another bag because I still had plenty, but as the day wore on, and the treat bags dwindled, I was doing my best to make sure they lasted for the whole event.

Pap, PLEASE ignore giggles. While I can't speak for everyone I certainly prefer your company over his and would hate to see his normal "somebody pissed in my wheaties" attitude run you off.

I don't know. But I have a pretty good idea what it says about people who call someone an arrogant liar becauseof the amount of free candy they gave away.

Bob, I hope this isn't recalling a painful childhood memory when someone stole your candy. In my analysis, that could be the cause of all of your anger and bitterness
:)
