I know the question wasn't directed at me, but when I do a prom, I do charge more, but the system is basically the same.

I assume the chairs and table are for crowd control?

What issues are you having? I ask because I've not seen that here, nor have I needed to do it. The last dance (most are in the cafeteria) they asked me to turn 90 degrees, plus I'd already planned to set up the speaker and lights as one would expect, but put myself off to the side - why should I pound myself with bass all night? LOL Plus I'm not more accessible if anyone needs to come up.

What I do, from a suggestion of an old dj, is I have a small table with a tablet and pens and have them write their requests on that - so nobody does come up and ask me anything. They'll fill 5, 7, even 10 pages with requests. Then I can go thru and see if there's anything worth playing, if they req something a lot that i planned to play later i may move it up in the evening.

I do that also, but I use the tables on the side (see pics),,,, Personally I wouldn't set up on the side and leave the space under my trussing open... years ago I had one shit of a kid just up and wack my disco ball across the room...... yeah, no longer to they get close enough to do that.

I have yet another school dance tomorrow. I will take a pic of this set up since it may be my favorite set up. The school layout allows me to be up high and there is a half wall and some decorative rocks that separates me from the kids dancing. It's great. Safest set up in regards to being away from the kids you mentioned Chuck.

I don't get why you would want to be separated from the kids I love the interaction with people of all ages by all means come up and ask me to play your song

Ready for a gig in 30 minutes. This is what I was talking about regarding being up high and separated from the dance floor. Little safer. Just people like sitting on the subs from time to time. [emoji4]e6a936f38541ebf2ee30a7e261a2dfc1.jpg

With the subs that far out front, are you running a delay on them? Looks you'd need a good 8ms or so delay to blend them into the tops .. otherwise you'll get a very muffled sound as the bass will be heard before the HF/MF will.

I am fully aware this could be considered a silly question, 8ms would be milliseconds?

No delay. It didn't sound "terrible" and the students told me to turn down the bass (a first) which is probably an issue of not running a delay. I need to invest is something now to set a delay though after today. The altos have a delay setting in them but I am not sure if it will work with my configuration today. What would you recommend to set delay?

Typically, you'd delay .893 milliseconds per foot of difference .. that works for both sub/top delay .. or .. out in the room speaker delay. 89.3 ms per 100 feet.

So a lot depends on where the subs end up. If you put them under your table, but they are on the same plane as the tops, they might not need ANY delay. In the pictures above, they look to be about 10 feet in front of the tops, so the recommended 8ms delay on the sub. If they were 10 ft behind the tops, you'd delay the tops 8ms instead.

I had to delay my tops all the time when I ran my Yorkville Unity setup, as the subs were horn loaded, so you had to compensate for the horn length.

Best/easiet way to delay (if the speaker doesn't have that in a menu) is with a dbx DriveRack.

Makes sense. The subs were around 6 feet in front of the tops. I will look into a drive rack. It would be nice. Most places I can make it work without a delay but this school layout will need it. Thanks for the advice.

There are several DriveRAcks I noticed. Isn't one better suited for mobile and powered setups?

Mostly it comes down to what flexibility you need. The PA+ is probably sufficient for most mobile jocks. The PA2 adds advanced wizards for setup and some remote control. The Venue360 is the right box if you have multiple speaker systems (like delay speakers), since each output is independent. Without it, you'd need a DriveRack for each pair of outputs. I have a PA and a DR260 (predecessor to the Venue360).

There used to be a simpler unit for active speakers (DR PX), but that's no longer made.

It looks like the PA+ is also being discontinued.
