About CD's

Okay, so then you're relying on your sound card, a software program that could potentially have bugs, and an operating system the could crash or cause your program to crash at anytime. So instead of having lesser-quality music, you've got no music until you can reboot your laptop?

Your relying on ...how old is that cd player?...an antiquated machine with moving parts that are just bound to wear and fail..... a laser that reads the cd's that could fail at any time.....

Funny thing is though, its the same technology that a computer relies on. How do you think the hard drive spins and data is recovered from it?

I just bought this CD player last year. Unlike a computer, it won't need to be upgraded in 2-3 years.

I'm running VDJ on a 5 year old tablet pc....no issues. Does your cd player do video? Will it catalog requests......can you load a request in less than 10 seconds....

At least my laptop will reboot after a glitch; I typically don't have to send it away for service...

Shall we stop this silliness now?:sqerr:

I have noticed any belts or rubber bands the last time I opened up a hard drive...those platters do look like cds though....Nice thing is that these cd's hold more than 20 songs.....:sqerr:

I can do this all day....

Well, not exactly.... I may not be real savvy, but I get by. I WANT the hard copy of the CD. I want to be always able to have the original. I want the liner notes. I want the photos on the CD packaging.... and for about $3 more than a download, that is at lower quality, I'll take the CD every single time if I like the CD.
Yet I bet you own a digital camera.:sqwink:

You know, nobody is bashing the use of CDs or other media. We're just pointing out that nothing is fool proof. Your blatant disdain for fixed digital media is what's spawning these debates over and over again. You can't insult
someone's practices without taking a hard look at your own.

Let's all just agree to disagree okay?

We love you Ducky!

I don't do video.

My mind and some pen and paper catalogs requests until I can purchase what I need.

10 seconds? Try 5.

I can do this all day, too, you know. This isn't getting anybody anywhere. Even if the music stores keep closing down, I can still buy CDs online. If vinyl is still sold online, so will CDs. Nobody will ever sway me into relying upon a laptop as a direct tool for DJing.

Okay, nothing is full-proof, we all know that.

For me personally, my biggest issue with a laptop is I can't repair it myself if need be.

Sure you can..... jeeez it's not rocket science.... the covers come off just as easily as does a deck's cover.... the components might be smaller but certainly replaceable.

If you are regularly taking care of any piece of equipment on the job repair shouldn't be necessary.

Heck I dropped this very laptop on hard concrete while running and guess what it didn't even skip.... it certainly bounced though... LOL

Would you like to fix my laptop for me, then? It hasn't run in 4 years!!!

sure get the replacement parts... I'll give it a go... replacing parts is not too unlike a desktop... you just have to get 'em from the manufacture of the laptop.... but in most cases it's probably cheaper to just buy a replacement laptop....

This is why for the longest time I advocated the use of a desktop pc depsite the protability of a laptop by comparison.

In the end parts is parts right? Be they for a non-functioning puter or a non-functioning CD player.... they all either get plugged in or screwed in.... for the most part.

And no body will sway me from relying on cd players and discs ever again......

and I call bs on the 5 seconds :sqcool:
