Hello, have any of you guys used a dual speaker mount (www.bhphotovideo.com)? I have a gig where i'll be (dj'ing) set up on a stage outdoors and wondered if this helps to give better coverage. Last year i used a pair of yamaha dxr12s (on two speaker stands) with a single jbl prx718s sub and this year i'm looking into using a pair of the dual speaker mounts with 4 yamaha dxr8s (2 yamaha dxr8s on each crossed using the subs internal crossover) and 2 jbl prx718s. I'm thinking since the dxr8s have 90 degree coverage 2 on a dual mount won't cause comb filtering if i position the dxr8s correctly.

My other options are using 2 yamaha dxr15s with the 2 jbl prx718s subs or 2 yamaha dxr15s and 2 qsc k12s on 4 separate stands. Thanks JD

actually for small weddings and smaller indoor events events it take up less pace than two top or a pair of subs, for outdoor gigs, I generally use my NEXO system you really need bigger horn drivers and better mids to carry outside, prior to owning the NEXO system my typical outdoor set up was 8 HPR 181 subs with 6 HPR 153 tops it really depends more on the gig at hand

So i'd be better off using 2 yamaha dxr15 and 2 qsc k12. Bass isn't as important as coverage for this event. I'm trying to meet them half way with the budget they have. I'll try to use what i have in my inventory instead of hiring out the sound.

No 15's are about the worst speaker available I would use the k'12 and subs with a proper crossover not the one built into the speakers

So if thats the case wouldn't 4 yamaha dxr8s crossed with 2 subs be better than 2 qsc k12s with subs. Crossed won't the k12s and the dxr8s be similar?

Maybe .. since you'd typically cross an 8" over a bit higher than a 12" .. my gut says 4 DXR8s would be a better bet if you have coverage needs.

The 12 should carry vocals better than an 8 again you haven't explained what the gig is how many people in attendance, how big of an area are you traying to cover, there are a lot of variables to consider

Carry should be mainly predicated by horn geometry, and there may be a bit more with the 75 deg horn on the K12 over the 90 deg horn on the DXR8 .. but it seems he only has 2 of the QSC.

I agree I would like to know more about the event before I make anymore suggestions, maybe he would be best served using the 8's up front and using the 12's as side or rear fills,

Here's a couple of pictures and a video from last years event. I'm thinking coverage for 20 feet in front and 30 feet to the side of the stage i'm on would be ideal. Here's a video (

) people were dancing well beyond the 30 ft to the side of the stage so i guess it's okay to assume that the music could be heard clearly.

Based on the pictures alone, if your gear list is all available, I would opt for the pair of QSC K12s pointing forward over the pair of JBL PRX718 and then use a pair of DXR15 for side fill. The QSC has the tightest horn at 75 deg, and will be better at reaching out the furthest. The DXR 15s have a 90 deg horn and will do great, with a little bottom end, for the the areas off to the side. Doubling up the DXR will be hampered by the splay angles since the horn is so wide. Unless you had 4 speakers with a 60 deg horiz dispersion, the best single pair would be my choice.

I've also looked at a pair of used yamaha dsr112, rcf hd32 and rcf art 735. If i were to purchase any of those speakers i would use them as a pair with the jbl prx718s subs and call it a day.

I do this a lot. Even at a regular dance I have been using rear fill with ev12's tops on stands running from the monitor output running with no crossover, except for the 30 hz cut on the qsc.

No doubt they might sound better up close .. the RCF HD32a is one of the best sounding 12" tops I've listened to and I believe the 735 uses the same HF unit.

I have some time to look into this but i will definitely keep you guys posted. Leading up to the October event i have other outdoor events, not as big, so i'll use different combos to see what i think will work best.

those are my options for 12 tops... dsr112 ,hd32 or art732/735.. Which one did you get or say is better. I have a dxr15 but too heavy i always use subs (801p)
