Bought 12 Chauvet LED Rains for Uplighting from NLFX at MBLV

Hello Friends,

Got a great deal on 12 Chauvet LED Rain 56 lights to be used primarily for uplighting after the awesome DMX after dark seminar at Mobile Beat 2009. NLFX gave us a great deal on them.

I was just wondering do all LED Rain 56 lights come with that special AC cord used to daisy chain them all together and if so, do I need to order more of them to use to uplight them all around a room. And also about how much and how long of DMX cable should I additionally purchase. I have a wedding March 6th and March 7th that I want to throw in the uplighting to get some great pictures for future advertisements at these next two events.

I don't want to get all the lights in next week and find out I don't have enough cables to properly make it work. I will be controlling all the lights with a standard DMX controller.

Thanks for you help and advice. I will probably be ordering the extra cable accessories once I figure out (or someone advises me) how much I need very soon so I can receive it all by next Wednesday.

All the Chauvet LEDRain cans come with the daisy chain type power cords. Some you might not need to daisy chain if there is a outlet close by and you could use the extension for that light on another light. Each can comes with a power in and out cable attached to the light on about a 3-4" cable, and about a 24" power cable, and a about 6ft extension cable. How much DMX cable you need will depend on your room. Every room will be different, the more power plugs located around the room the less of the extension you will need.

As for linking the power the website says up to 51 units can operate from one plug.
"Additional power output: max 50 units @ 120V (see manual for details, 115V models only)"
But the manual also says the units must be attached to grounded outlest, it is only a 2 prong plug.

I'm also looking to order more daisy chain type cords. This way you can get away with only one power source.

The best price so far i was quoted is 20.00 per cord.

With 12 lights i would go with 10 -15 cords.
The same story for DMX cables. 6 ft and 12 ft.
I would much the total length of power cords with DMX cords.

Sorry for the HiJack....l've got some pars to sell to anyone interested....

American DJ AMDJ LED Pro Par Cans 64. Pro version upgrade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have 4 AMDJ LED Pro Black Par 64 Cans.
These are an upgraded version of AMDJ cans that are also comparable to the
Chauvet COLORsplash 200B

What I have are the "pro" versions.
6 Channels Each with macros built in and auto mode etc.
Regular Retail $299.00 ea.
I paid $250.00 ea.
Asking $180 ea. Not sure what shipping would be though. Can't be too much.

A couple dings etc. One has a different screw. Functionally perfect. I could take actual pics if you need em or you can take my word for it. They are included in this video.

The Rain 56 is a great light. However, if you plan on linking them all via DMX, make sure you either a) get/build some sort of bases for them, or b) get some right-angled DMX plugs on those cables. While you can stand up a Rain 56 using its own brackets, there's not enough clearance for a standard DMX cable to be plugged in.

Here's how Keith addressed said problem in a neat way ;) I would do the same with the Rain56 :)

Adrian,

When I bought my 8 Chauvet Colorsplash. Jrs, I also got 8-30' dmx cables with them. The extra unused cable length goes underneath them like this:

Maybe the new owners of the Colorplash, Jrs would want to because I'm putting them up for sale. Any takers?

I have 10-Rain56s enroute.

When you spread their legs :sqerr: they are too low for regular DMX cables.
And they are ugly too:sqbiggrin:
But work perfectly with freestyler and i like that daisy chain thingy a lot.

Very cool and sexy lights.
Wonder if they will start selling single units? With wireless dmx system build in... battery powered ...under 200.00...

I really like the new LedSplash 2. Very cool looking light, just not for my packet this year.

Just finished building some wood bases for my 18 Rain56 lights, while at it I removed the shorter bracket too. I always had trouble getting them to stand like I wanted trying to use the split bracket.

I would be interested on how those turned out Mike, pictures?

Nothing fancy, just a 7" square piece of MDF painted "aluminum" Drilled a hole in the center and hammered a 5/16" tee-nut into the hole

http://www.rjleahy.com/Techcenter/nuts/tee_nuts.htm

Put some stick on felt feet, and used a 3/4" 5/16 bolt washer and lock washer.

I wanted to make a base that had dead space under it to hide extra cord, but the cases I carry the lights in would allow that much extra height. I'll take a couple of pictures on Thursday night.
