What are your recomendations:

Multi-shot capture (no flash) or single shot with flash?

I can set my camera to capture 3 high res photo's with just one click of the shutter button but no flash will result... or I can take just one photo and possibly miss the shot entirly but get a flash.

Or should I stage the shot.... I'm not a pro but want to give it my best as an ameture.

The flash or no flash option comes down to your available lighting.
The two best possible shots are just as she releases the projectile and just as it reaches the outstretched hands. The rest depends on how good you are with capturing the right moment.

I thought you were a DJ?:sqerr:

Stage it with a fake throw and take the shot of the bride in mid throw do a second take with the girls catching it!

Not sure what camera you are using but my Olympus will do multi fires of the flash (depending on how much light is needed) from 2 to 6 shots in a matter of 2 seconds.

Jo has setups with strobe flashes that will allow her to do continuous frames until a 36 frame roll of film is gone (about 10 seconds).

Thanks Thunder your spot on. Fake tosses have been my gift to the photographers over the yrs., make sure you use it to your advantage mentioning oh my ladies you need to count much louder if the bride is going to turn over this lovely bouquet. Sometimes the bouquet are hideously ugly but we have to pretend sometimes LOL.

With my camera I can do multi-shots with one press of the button but the flash does not fire on my camera...

I don't know if I want to destroy the moment by staging a few shots though.... since I'm the entertainment and not really a photographer this is my greatest fear.

if you need any ebooks on how to photography just ask

I have posted a few before and that will tell you some of the secrets to wedding photography

have a great day

Ok guys, quick question...A fake throw? I've never seen one done.

You either capture the real moment or you don't...

Please explain why and how..

Gracias.

This actually sounds interesting. Especially when there is only one shooter.
With only one shooter, you can only get a great shot of the toss or the catch, not both. Or you go for the wide scene shot. (EDIT...Although, you could go for mulit-shot and follow the bouquet in flight. Would take some practice, but I'm sure there are pros out there who can do this easily.)

I would imagine you set it up as a "warm up" toss. Perhaps have the groom back there to catch. Set it up as a 3/4 body shot, facing her but off center so as not to get the groom in the shot. Perhaps also a narrow field of focus.

I really like this idea, any other thoughts? Perhaps from Jon or others who have done this?

sorry I didnt see this request Wayde until now. You can actually encourage more energy into the mix using this option and a single photog will love you for helping give him more options. You tell the bride in advance that to assist great options for the photographer and to wake up the crowd and add energy simply on the count of three part 1 pretend but keep your grip on the bouquet. Then proceed as MC to announce ladies" I told you Bride ____ would not let go of such a lovely bouquet unless you make some noise." Proceed to explaining the birde will be able to make a more succesful toss if she can gauge where her target is. Also then mention to the crowd " I think these girls are a bit shy so perhaps we could help them out. Please shout out the count with these shy single ladies". Upon the third count the bride then tosses the bouquet and the photographer has additional opportunity and you also have created more room wide energy. This is a rough explanation you can fine tune it to suit your needs. I also found that along with Single Ladies I have had great response to intro music from the Beastie Boys. Hey Ladies and Girls. Both great upbeat and known.

Ok, then you are referring to more of a delaying tactic , kind of like a "tease throw" than an actual fake setup. That I understand and have often done this with the right Bride and/or Groom.

Problem with many B&G's is that no matter how much you coach them, they panic and just get up there and fire away.

I do this out on the floor and am right near the bride reminding her. It has never failed.

its probably the closest to interactive I ever get in most cases. Outside the booth area atleast though I have been known to dance like Cap at my kit area. LOL

I do leave the "restricted DJ zone" when we end the anniversary dance to interact with the oldest married couple and to kick off the dollar dance (as I try to put those back to back if the B&G are cool with it.). :sqwink:

Jon, keep my seat warm...I'll be back..We're heading out to go see Asleep At The Wheel tonight....:)

Remember when doing a fake throw, you only need to take one of the bride actually throwing not the guests....

that can be taken anytime by the photographer because most will be digital

its like doing the fake cutting of the wedding cake , same deal
