I'm working on my dance floor spotlight setup for the venue, specifically for First and Parent dances. I'm thinking of using a couple of Source Four Jr Zooms with amber and gobo, from about 35 degrees, each side. I'm then thinking about 3, white fixtures, mounted at a little higher angle. The idea, spray a large area with the SFs and then use the white fixtures to pinspot the center. I;m kinda thinking 10w pinspots would work well for the center lights and hang them at a higher angle. Throw should be 15-20 feet. The idea being, have the SFs on as guests arrive and leave them on until dance time (thru dinner and special dances). The pinspots only come on during Grand Entrance and special dances, then go off the rest of the night.

Wondering if you guys might have some input on the white fixtures. Here's something I'm looking at. Wondering if 10w is strong enough. Don't want to get too bright but I'd like to make a presentation that the photographer won't need strobes. Your input is appreciated.

those jr zooms are so big and bulky... and useless once the dance is over...u could accomplish this so much better with moving heads...have multiple gobo options...and then the minute the first dance is over...they are a workhorse the rest of the night...

get some used 355's

Yea, the zooms are bulky but they throw a really nice pattern and will be quick to put into place to get some pictures. I think long term, you're exactly correct. Put a wider area pattern fill on the dance floor and punch the center with pinspots. I want that nice, three overlaying circles to put a bright light on the heads/faces of the couple being spotlighted.

10w isn't enough .. that's like a 60w incandescent bulb. I would think 20w would be absolute minimum as a spotlight. And warm white.

Even at that short of a distance? You may be right. Now I just gotta find the fixtures. Agree on the warm white as well. I hate all the blue in a true LED white. Next, I'm getting a hard on for sparklers. Might rent some and stage a first dance with a bride/groom. I really want to pop the promo pics.
