Dip switch settings

Unfortunately, they are fixture dependent.

Some set the DMX address left-to-right .. some right-to-left. Some use most of the switches for address and a couple for other purposes (master/slave, etc.).

Most newer fixtures have gone away from switches and use a led panel with usually 4 push buttons.

Chauvet has a dip switch visualizer (for their switches) here: CHAUVET® DIP Switch Calculator | CHAUVET® Lighting

Hugh, is there a more specific question? Addressing depends on how many 'channels' are needed per fixture.

I'm figuring out how there are different realites for different fixtures. Seems to be based on the age of the light.

What I'm trying to do is put my lights on my DMX board, so I can set them up for different parts of the wedding, and to light a room. It sounded basic when I started.

The Chauvet switches don't help. I have gone to manufacturer's websites looking for info/manuals, etc. I'll let you know how it goes.

When you do DMX, a lot of the process is planning.

Map out how you would like the lighting to work before you start setting addresses, so you can decide if some fixtures should have the same address (so they act the same - like some or all of the uplights) or should be different, based on how you will use them.

Lights generally (except for older ones) have multiple ways of DMX control, so you need to decide how many of the channels you actually need. For example, some fixtures can be controlled by 3, 5, 11, or say 19 channels of DMX depending on whether you want simple RGB control or full control over every facet (that you need the instruction manuals for). It's important as not every controller (hardware or software) can address the entire 512 channels, so you need to know how many channels you wish to control PLUS how many total different device addresses you need BEFORE you start allocating addresses.

Dip switches - haven't seen them on fixtures for the last 5 years. It's all done by scrolling thru a menu (with newer fixtures) - read the manual to decipher what the LED displays mean. i.e. SOUN, ADDR, SHND etc.
