Do you cut back on distance you will travel in the winter?

Had a call last night for an event in February. It is about 60 miles from home. Now, truth be told, I tend to stay within a 40 mile radius of my house, but when winter comes, I limit my radius to about 15 - 20 miles.

I have been in 3 car accidents in my life, all in the snow, and all with people running into me. I don't like to drive in the snow, no matter what.

I have an afternoon event tomorrow afternoon, and snow is expected.... not looking forward to the drive.

And, I don't do weddings anymore, but even when I did, I never took them in the winter unless they were 10 miles or less from my home.

Why not just book the gig and cancel if the weather is bad. I mean you do have a inclement weather clause in your contract?

If the weather is so bad you risk your life getting there, the event should be cancelled anyway.

Nope, for our winters, we put the snow tires on and allow for more travel time. We also keep our dj bank cards on us, so if we have to stay overnight unexpectedly somewhere we're fine.

I've driven literally thousands of miles in the snow it doesn't bother me in the least though I will say I don't look forward to trips like that anymore. To answer your question no I go anywhere anytime. Like Jmac I always have my cards if I get stuck and more than once I've slept in the van

Never say never. You may have dodged it so far, but you never know what lies around the bend.

I had a 6Tuple bypass..... and still did a wedding a couple weeks after..... It would take a helluva lot.

we don't cut down on the distance we travel, but we do keep an eye on the weather on both ends, and allow extra travel time.

I'm guessing that if you didn't go out in the snow, that would cut off 11 months of the year in the Dakotas ... :)

well...10 months maybe :djsmug:

In reality, it doesn't hurt my feelings to not work a lot during jan-feb...it cuts a lot of stress. We don't like to be on the road in blizzards and have to watch weather from here to chicago....so it's all good. We do take winter events, but we don't bust it trying to book a lot of them.
