Dude, I sure hope you're pure fiction, 'cause if you're not it would be ironically sad that you treat your dog better than yourself.
Now how the hell did we get this far off of the subject? Do you carry a gun with you when you DJ an event?I treat my dog well for a reason Bob.
I can sleep all night, and leave the doors unlocked. Here's how it works -- anybody comes on The Farm, the deers alert, then the dog lets me know, then I pull out the AK. Then, if they manage to break in, and the dog doesn't eat them, they have to manage to go through 5 dead bolted doors to get to me. Then I shoot them.
Beats the heck out of me how it works up north -- but I keep a Ruger under my pillow, and the AK under the bed.
There is a contradiction here. First you say you "leave the doors unlocked". Then you say "they have to manage to go through 5 dead bolted doors" to get to you. Whats up with that? BTW for the dog to have to eat the intruders, she would have to be outside the 5 dead bolted doors. Is that how you show love for your dog?I treat my dog well for a reason Bob.

We have better security devices here at the Dollar Store! It's a bit difficult to explain to a Texass.
I designed the security system here -- it's built for a full Swat or military attack.
But, if you choose to come in and bring some beer-- that's cool

Here's what I've learned to do when such people look to contact me and that's their budget. I'll give them a price quote that I know they won't want to pay so I can hurry up to do something else. For example I'll double the price knowing they won't spend that much. That's really because it's a client I really don't want to do an event for in the first place. Trust me it's not all about just money. Some clients that contact me are looking for a DJ to come do a hood rat party and I'm too old to fool with such mess. They don't want to spend any real money on a DJ and you might just have to worry about if a fight might break out or someone getting shot at the event. Trust me this is very serious where I live at.Mix...
if you are getting referrals on your $250 gigs..
it's probably because of your price, and not because of your performance.
"Hey I know this great DJ, and he's really expensive"
"Great! What's number?"
The big tip is they type of music they want. When they say they are looking for a DJ who will play only today's hip hop and r & b that's a dead give away that probably will turn into a mess.

Some people were at a party in a back yard and someone came in with a gun started shooting and killing someone. This happened this past summer. So no matter how much a person has to pay some events aren't worth it just to make some money.

So I stay away from such gigs. The other deciding factor for me is where the event is to take place. Some clients will choose a sleazy place to have an event. One that is know for trouble. Just to give you a quick example my friend who plays in the bar in Orange, NJ that I'll be playing at on the 14th told me of a place just down the street that a promoter is having a talent/fashion show in a place called CIC. He said every weekend police got to come over there because there usually is some drama either in or outside the place. So for me I like to be safe then sorry. Been there done that. Let some desperate DJ do those gigs.
Some are just meant to be Bar DJs....embrace your destiny!
That, or accept you attract the low-end of pricing structure and get your arse to work!
Randy, bar work is not bad -- depends on how you handle it.
I've worked tons of cheap, little ass bars. But when you take home the tip gar, and open it, you can be amazed at what's in there. You can easily make $500 bucks a night.
I'm too old at this point, to do anything other than a titty bar (which is even more lucrative).
Wish I was 20 years younger -- but that ain't happening...
Brother, Rick...take a look at my other comments.
Trust me I know very well in most cases what such things spell and that is trouble. Around here what happens when they want to hear today's hip hop and r & b all night especially in a bar or club it turns into a mess. The people there will eventually want the DJ to play some gangsta rap. That's where all they can do on the song is curse every other word, talk dirty about women and talk about how much money they are making from selling drugs. Also a lot of them talk about having a gun and killing people.Totally not true. I might understand the area / location .. but I highly doubt you know your customer based on what type of music they want.
