It’s very hard to know how the manufacturers rated spl, especially Bose. Was it with one b1, b2 and t1? Who knows.

What I can tell you is the spl is evey bit as loud and more as as the K series at 130. I sold the k series for L1 bc they were louder as well as Yorkville NX. Also the throw is absolutely insane on the l1. Sometimes, it’s too crazy (smaller room gets bounce back). The L1 can keep up with a pair of dual 18s from meyer.

In terms of sounding better, ya the l1 sounds like poo without the t1. You need the processing for music playback, otherwise it sounds extremely dull, too flat, and way too much midrange.

It's more like the 4 18" drivers can keep up with the L1. It takes alot more power to move an 18 (and still sound good) than it does to move a much smaller driver.

Is that a typo? The L1 can keep up with four 18" drivers??
Bose literature uses statements like "physics-defying", which they are not.

No. Not a typo. I did a 350 person wedding in a room that holds 800.

I also have done weddings outside with 300 people in a space thst holds thousands.

As long as there is a direct line of sight of the array, it is super impressive and absolutely scream several hundred feet back.

But will it have any bass several hundred feet back

Several hundred feet back:

With the B1, it sounds like bass from a really really good low end 15" 2 way.

With B2, it does noticeably better further, but lacks the quality and tone of the B1.

The F1 subwoofer combined with just one B1 per L1 is the answer for weddings and truly most events upto 300 at very loud.

I rent for bigger events, and not exclusively use a pair of Meyer 700HP. 142 max spl per box!

I really find Bose's naming convention on their column speakers really annoying. I've seen so many people just referring to their speaker as "Bose l1" and you have no idea which model they are talking about since most of the models have l1 in the name.

The other day I came across this interesting column speaker group review. It doesn't have all of the latest offerings, but I think these compact column speakers are becoming more and more popular at least for small to mid sized rooms.

The Great Stick PA Roundup | AudioTechnology Magazine

your' right, and now I am in the habit of doing so. I was referring to L1 MII.

You thought the Bose was louder than the Evolves? I am quite surprised. Physics doesn't lie. 117 db compared to 127 db is quite a difference.

I only have to compare what I heard when having them side by side and A/B'ing them. To me, that's the ONLY way to compare speakers. Hearing one, then later hearing another is rather subjective.

Regardless, both are great systems.

Any Updates. Thinking about picking these up. Now that you have had some serious grind time with them. Pros? Cons?

Can you point out any literature that uses this statement? I’ve not seen it

I think you are right. You can read that statement on page 541 of the current (Spring 2018) Sweetwater catalog, in a description of the
F1 Powered Subwoofer - "The F1 subwoofer raises the bar on Bose's physics-defying portable PA speakers".

I say you're right because, since calling me out on it, I can't find similar statements on the Bose website. Usually, retailers dead-lift ad stuff from the manufacturer,
but it looks like Sweetwater did this themselves. My apologies.

I don't think Bose ever claimed that although there were many users and re-sellers that did (present company excluded ;) )

Maybe. I've found nothing magical about them. :)
Good quality, easy transport/setup, great customer service, strong resale value, money back guarantee, and customers love them. No hocus pocus. Sound business... pardon the pun:)

Seems the only thing they've defied is the temptation to be like other equipment companies, cut corners, and merge/sell out

I wish more companies were like them.

I think not cutting corners is debatable. When particle board is used as part of an enclosure's reinforcement for a "professional speaker", I consider that as cutting corners. Also, I'm just not a fan of foam driver surrounds for PA speakers or plastic end caps. I just expect better.

Actually, MDF is a better speaker cab cabinet material than plywood, it's denser and not prone to warping, most high end audio speakers are veneered MDF .. it just doesn't hold up to handling and moisture as well, so would suck for something moved around and subject to rough use.

If Bose sandwiched it with plywood on the exterior, they might have gotten the benefit of both materials (unless they put the MDF on the outside :) ).

I see particle board not even mdf in that clip. That's worse than mdf. We are talking about a mobile speaker here not a consumer home speaker or install speaker.
