Thank you for setting the record straight. Misinformation can do loads of injustice to otherwise good products. I like EV and have been owning and using EV for a very long time, so I am not against the brand.

No worries...the zxa-5 is one of the most powerful powered loudspeakers around, but making them out to be more than that will not help anyone...

OK, before I get in trouble for berating other folks speakers. In Wedding settings with proper placement, I am sure that if it is good quality speakers that it would sound just fine. At most weddings high SPLs are not necessary. However, when I hear folks bragging that a two way set of speakers, especially with no subs, can serve 500 people or more, I tend to get skeptical. I just don't believe it.

Why are you guys even taking this guy seriously? Who is he?

He has ONE post and is probably doing this just to ruffle feathers. We should all have enough experience to know this guy is full of hooey.

Bill,
It is still misinformation that needs to be addressed. You would be surprised that some may actually believe that kind of stuff. Michael was correct in setting the record straight.

I tell you what guys... the ZXa5 is by FAR the best sounding, most capable 15" 2-way I have heard anywhere near it's price range, but we do have to be realistic about it's capabilities. Filling a stadium isn't going to happen. However, those who've heard these or own these will testify to it's almost otherworldly capabilities. :)

Mike - Thanks for taking the time to come in here and show our community why EV and NLFX are such good partners. We're both committed to the truth. For those who want a full dose of it, come see us at Mobile Beat. We have a seminar during our ProAcademy called "Getting what you pay for", and this is exactly the kind of thing that will be on the menu. :)

I love mine, enough said,,, I mean, you all want to be like me right? Cool, go but some from Ben! :) ;)

Does he also sell the Hawaiian Shirts and the girls in Bikinis? What is the shipping on the latter?:triwink:

Is there a sound difference between the non-powered to the powered version?

Is there a sound difference between the non-powered to the powered version?

Yes. If you set these two pairs of each kind of speaker side by side, for some reason the powered pair is really loud and sounds great and the non-powered ones are just completely silent. Go figure. :triwink:

Is there a sound difference between the non-powered to the powered version?

The "X-factor" here is amplification. If properly amplified the powered version and the active version are identical. We have installed the passive version in some gyms and places where putting in subs would be difficult or impractical and the LF they produce is just awesome! Likewise, the active version, because it is bi-amped and well powered just rocks!

I know Ben will beat any price but a quick google brings back $999 (each).

I believe that is for the passive version, but yes, we have a GREAT price on both. We are one of the largest EV dealers and we are not often undersold, especially by supporting dealers.

Ben

Sorry to hyjack, but is there a big difference between the sound quality and SPL between the passive Zx5 and the 15" TourX? Are they roughly comparable in clarity, output etc.? Or is there some difference?

Well said Randy. I tell you what, the ZX5 and ZXa5 are what they are, which is awesome speakers. The DVX woofer really is an engineering marvel.

That being said... the Tour-X boxes are a STEAL for how they perform relative to how they are priced. They are rock solid, great sounding, very affordable, made in the USA boxes! I have not had a single customer who bought Tour-X regret it.

Hey Guys, how do you do...
My name is Darcy, from Canada up here in the Labrador region..
I`m pleased to meet you guys and I hope to learn from you good folks....
I`ll do my best to return the favour when I can

Right now I`m in the market for speakers...considering a pair of these EV ZXA5 cabs!

I`m playing rooms no bigger than 1600 square feet, crowds no larger than 300.
Performing classic rock and country in my one man show
Running vocals, a miced guitar amp, and two channels of backing tracks (one channel for bass accompaniment, another channel for drums) through an Allen & Heath Zed10FX mixer
Using one of my old Carvin LM12A active cabs as a monitor for the time being (hoping to replace that one with an EV SxA100+ soon enough)
Currently considering purchasing a pair of these EV ZXA5 cabs, using one on a stand and perhaps the other one on the floor, for extra oomph if necessary-I don`t know...just a passing brainfart...

Would you folks say that a pair of these EV ZXA%`s be suffice for my needs......looking to get away from having a to carry an extra set of sub cabs if possible, and I`m not looking for earth rumbling-shatterring sound anyways....Just good clean volume with enough lows to move a crowd like I`ve described....Thanks a million Guys!
