Alright time for another fun filled, action packed gig report. It was a busy day for me. Work at the chemical plant until 3:30, then sped to coach a soccer game 30min away, then sped home to change. Then sped to the school to set-up.

The Good: Didn't have a single song that bombed, a first out of my three gigs thus far. Kept the dance floor packed once they started dancing. All but a very few stayed until the very last song. Very few requests, took it as a sign that they were pleased with the music selection. Set-up in record time (45 minutes), although that's kinda cheating since my truss, speaker stands, speakers were set up, and all other gear was unloaded.

The Bad: Wasn't really any bad. Had a few students come up early asking for newer songs (stuff I was playing had come out between one year and six months ago).

The Ugly: More amplifier woes. Decided to forget any other upgrades I'd previously mentioned for the time being and focus on a new amp. Cut out twice early on without any indication of clip on any of the equipment. Unplugged and then powered right back up, no problem. Cut out a third time, took about 30 seconds before I came back up, lowered my levels and appeared to be ok. With about 90 minutes left it cut out again. This time it stayed down a while (about 3min). Dropped from 4 15" cabs down to 2 cabs again and rounded up a small fan. Nervous now, dropped the levels even more, now running with 2 cabs and about 35% capacity. Had one or two ask to turn it up, did a little, everyone sang along since I was playing all the big hits from here on out, helped to ease my nerves and came across as the students were having the best time thus far.

Other Notables: Slow teardown, ugly teardown, will sort through it later. Drove home with the music off (rare for me) and the windows down. Just listened to the sounds of the machine, it was kinda relaxing. Cold beer in the fridge (probably the best part of my day thus far). More soccer in the a.m. tomorrow and the girlfriend is in from Lexington. Hope to get some sleep, that is after a couple of cold ones.

Your mission if you choose to accept: Help me find a new amp. There have been some suggestions already on brands. Fred suggested Carvin, and the price seems right for my needs (I think). Here's my initial budget: $500ish. Don't laugh if that's way low. What I have: 4 15" cabs capable of handling 200ish RMS each. They're rated at 600peak, so the 200RMS is just a guess. Oh yeah and they're Gem Sound, same as the amp (hard learned lessons). They can get the job done, first use of the amp I had plenty of volume.

Thanks in advance and please be gentle.

You what? Buy 'em both if you can,,,, that way whne you buys subs, ya got da amp!

It's good to see that your gigs are going well. I have to agree with DJ Paradise. Look into a used QSC PLX 3002 or 3402.
I think by pushing 4 tops with your current amp you are asking the amp to do too much. If you start your events with just two tops, you might just squeak by with no down time. I love my QSC amp. I had 2 but sold one when I bought my powered tops. I use the plx 3002 to push 2 15" tops and it runs for 4, 5 or 6 hours without a sweat.
You can use your current speakers with this amp, but as soon as you can I would look into better tops. Most gigs only need two tops and 1 sub.
Also check out the B52 Matrix system. It may be entry level, but I heard great things about that powered combo.
