I have a friend who is 73 and still a DJ. He used to use CD's. I pushed him into becoming a computer DJ. When he first became a computer DJ, he was still carrying CD's with a dual CD player because he wasn't fully convinced he could DJ with a computer and never have to carry a book of CD's ever again.
It took my partner to do the same thing with me. Since becoming a computer DJ I have never looked back. I gave my books of CD's to my ex. I don't regret it either. Being a computer DJ is great! No more struggling with carrying in CD books at an event. My music is on a portable HD and I have 2 backup HD's I can use if need be.

... Whenever You want to learn/know anything about modern Technology, just ask a Teenager; And they will show you how it is done.Yes, you can use CDs it’s just a lot more work especially if you play many different genres of music and current music. Think about it you walk in with a laptop(s) or CD players and a crap load of CDs. Just the weight alone would cause me to change, actually that’s exactly happened. The weight of my CD collection became unmanageable and I used a laptop to find songs which weren't regularly played.
I understand the reasons for not changing, especially when my son shows me some new tech which he can wiz thru. Then it takes me weeks to get it.
