I have a friend who is 73 and still a DJ. He used to use CD's. I pushed him into becoming a computer DJ. When he first became a computer DJ, he was still carrying CD's with a dual CD player because he wasn't fully convinced he could DJ with a computer and never have to carry a book of CD's ever again.

It took my partner to do the same thing with me. Since becoming a computer DJ I have never looked back. I gave my books of CD's to my ex. I don't regret it either. Being a computer DJ is great! No more struggling with carrying in CD books at an event. My music is on a portable HD and I have 2 backup HD's I can use if need be.

My older brother has been using a Laptop for probably 14 years while deejaying. He literally JUST DECIDED TO NOT BRING HIS CDs with him any more! It took him 14 years to finally get rid of CDs! He just told me that over the phone last week. He said he realized over the last 3-4 years his use of CDs has declined from like 20% of the music he plays down to almost zero so why bring the cds any more.

Yes, you can use CDs it’s just a lot more work especially if you play many different genres of music and current music. Think about it you walk in with a laptop(s) or CD players and a crap load of CDs. Just the weight alone would cause me to change, actually that’s exactly happened. The weight of my CD collection became unmanageable and I used a laptop to find songs which weren't regularly played.
I understand the reasons for not changing, especially when my son shows me some new tech which he can wiz thru. Then it takes me weeks to get it.

There's a DJ who I know far too well and he still uses CD's. He does a great job and I seriously doubt he would be interested in becoming a computer DJ.

The friend that I mentioned that I pushed into becoming a computer DJ, that's his mentor. Becoming a computer DJ will not guarantee you will be any good as a computer DJ. It's about what works for you. I used to have 4 Pioneer CDJ 800'S. I sold them all once I bought a controller. I regret getting rid of them along with Numark CDN 88. I had 2 of them and got rid of both of them.
