Another view which shows the additional KT88's on the other side. At 180 pounds each, a poor Mobile DJ purchase even if he has those deep pockets!MC901 Top rendering.png

You don't take your best gear to a gig. Keep the good stuff at home and use the cheap stuff for gig's.
My best gear always goes with me (unless it's not meant for mobile use).

Wow, I haven’t seen tubes in years. My guitar amplifier head had tubes With a spring reverb. i actually used it as part of my very first DJ system. It had a whopping 100 watts. But even in the early 70’s everything was changing to solid-State. I do remember seeing all of the Macintosh high-end stuff at an audio store, Audio Exhange at the mall I worked at. That stuff was so far out of my price range it’s wasn't funny. I had to settle for Dynaco. I had a 120, PAt-5 & a 416. The Dynaco 120 was my first power app, 60 watts per channel. It blew at least once. I saw some still selling on eBay.

My first amp was a Hafler DH-500 and my first pre-amp a Hafler DH-110, both I built from a kit. David Hafler was instrumental in both Hafler and Dynaco.

They looked like this (top and bottom units). I had an early Denon CD player instead of the one pictured (and a Nakamichi cassette deck).

Good info I didn’t know that he was involved in both companies. I’ve heard of both Hafler & Dynaco but didn’t know the history. I had a three year regents electronic course in high school but my soldering skills sucked. Although I built a lot things in the early days I didn’t want to chance my skills on a amp. I must admit the early days were fun as you had to piece or built everything. Then came the Peavey stuff we brought used from bands then upgraded to the their new stuff. I must admit most of it served me well, 3 DPC series amps are still in the racks.

I doubt $17,000 McIntosh duel mono blocks were designed for mobile use. But I'm sure they would sound good no mater where they are used.
I don't take my $5,000 Martin acoustic guitars to a gig. I take my $500 Epiphone.
I think I read where BB King had McIntosh amp hidden in his Fender amp rig and thats what made his signature clean tone.

Many performers do bring their 5k guitars. They provide a different sound than a $500 Epi.

You think performers have more money than they know what to do with? If 'sound' is of no value or quality, then why don't we all bring out GemSound speakers, amps and mixers and leave the good stuff home? Why not buy Yugo's and leave the better cars home?

Some do have more money then brains, It depends on the gig and location. High end clubs I take the good stuff, dive bars and local watering holes I bring the cheaper stuff.
But I bought my good passive gear cheap when everyone was dumping there passive gear for powered gear. So I have good gear that I didn't pay much for. A 5K guitar is not going to sound much different on a cheap dive bar PA rig then a 500 dollar guitar does. And I have 500 dollar guitars that sound just as good as a 5K one does. Spending big money on a guitar does not guaranty better sound. Some of my cheap guitars sound better then the 5K ones do. You don't need the highest quality materials that are hand made to make it sound great. It's all in the set up and internal electronics that do.

I have a $1,500 Larrivee guitar Thats sounds better and has better balance and tone then my cozens 10K custom Martin D45.

I bought 6 - EV Q66 amps from GC used department for less then 100 bucks each. Not the new gen's but the older 3U German made units.
I bought 4 - EV P4000 old gens for 300 bucks used at GC. I bought 8 EV MTL1x double 18'' subs for 350 bucks each. I bought 4 EV T252t double 15'' tops for less then 300 each, used at GC. I bought 4 EV Q1212's used for 375 each.
You can buy good used passive gear cheap if your willing to shop and wait for the right deal to come along.

Mcintosh gear always looks and sounds great. 300/600 watts is Not a lot of watts for PA speakers but, I bet they sound great none the less.

Good sound is unique to each of us. With that in mind, there are plenty of people that buy 5k+ guitars (no reason to build them if people aren't buying them) .. and play them out. Why would they buy them if they didn't like the sound, look, feel, etc? Why keep it home if they like the sound, feel, look, etc?
