and was impressed. That's a good-sounding speaker, especially for a 15-inch, two-way cabinet. Speech was clear and intelligible. The DJ we hired on our photo+DJ event uses a pair of them. It was a bit heavier than I'd care for, but not bad. On bottom-end, it produced enough bass that you could skip using a sub, however I have to admit I still would want a sub.

My .02.

For a mid-tier system the Yamaha DXR is one of the nicest sounding. The entire range sounds good .. in my opinion, with a sub, the DXR10 is really sweet.

I listened to both the 10s and the 8s over the DXS 15 subs at the DJ Expo 2 years ago. It wasn't too busy at the time, so we got to hear them loud and the sales manager from Yamaha went back and forth between the 2. They did sound very close, but I thought the 10s sounded just a hair better in the lower mids than the 8s (with the subs on), so that would still be my choice between the 2 .. with or without a sub.

I'm happy with my DBR12s. Used them without a sub at my last gig and the bass response was very good.

I have a pair of Yamaha dxr15s, and three Yamaha dxr8s ( I use two with a ev ekx15sp sub and one for wedding ceremonies). I love these speakers. I actually used the 15s this past Saturday for a charity event in a church gym and the sound was excellent. I may add a pair of Yamaha dsr112 to the mix here soon. I'll be doing a good amount of outside events the next couple of months and have heard they are louder with better throw than the dxr series. We shall see
