And the "commercial use" refers to where its being played and in front of whom. Whether a dj is being payed, and/or the source of the music doesn't have anything to do it. ....I believe

IMHO, I believe Mike is incorrect. I don't know of any "license" in the US that comes along with any music subscription that allows the music to be played by a Dj "commercially". I don't believe such a license exists.

Maybe it's a spin on sales - #1 Service for DJ's that use it in a commercial environment (licensed). I wonder what they're using for metrics. I had PO at one time. I always wondered how they knew which 20 were going to make it vs other services that give you 4 times that in the same amount of time (same subscription comparison). In the end, I received less music with them than the others and people asked for more stuff that were released by the others, so I left the PO service.

I've had PO on and off since they started. In the beginning, it was meant more for club djs.
They drifted into the mobile market - bought out a local subscription service here in Chicago that was geared towards Alternative. I'm sure they purchased a few others. When it was strictly cds, you are absolutely right. Any disc you received
was a crap shoot. I too dumped the subscription. Found a music cd service where I could buy the discs in their various formats on an "as needed" basis. Was also able to purchase quite a bit from ERG that way too. When I started up my own dj biz in 2010, I looked at the other subscription services. PO was the least expensive to get started & what I was most familiar with. So far, for current hits, it's been pretty spot on.
