It just never ceases to amaze me. Ots gets bashed for years ....for not releasing ABM. So far it has run flawlessly (haven't heard anyone complaining about its stability) and yet we still see people taking their shots.
What shots? Serious food for thought is not "bashing".
I think it should be pointed out that buying for personal use (preference) and buying for business are very different.
I already acknowledged Ots' superiority in many functional areas. But I recommend that anyone looking for a professional long term solution consider the support and maintenance issues inherent with a proprietary file system and closed licensing.
That doesn't mean Ots should be ignored - it means you have to weigh the information against the merits of your own business requirements.
An important part of technology purchasing is the ability to look beyond where the product is
right now and consider where it will be
tomorrow. When predicting future performance you inevitably look to the past.
Waiting for ABM is
not my issue. (Personally, I find it a feature that serves consumers not professionals). But
waiting is itself a very serious issue for any business, including DJs.
Ots has not demonstrated an ability to update it's product in a timely manner. Serious business operates in a competitive world that demands timely solutions. Ots has not demonstrated that it can keep pace with timely product development and peripheral supports. No business wants to be held back by it's software.
The Ots proprietary file format also makes it presently unclear whether OtsDJ will be the
Betamax of DJ software, or one of the few packages ready to accept the change from MP3 to a next generation music file.
If tomorrow isn't an issue for you then move on, it's that simple.
JT: Lighten up. I don't find Jeff personally disrespectful to me. If he finds criticism of his favorite software personally disrespectful - that's an issue he can own.
Trivia is indeed fact - but it's insignificant fact. Responding with trivial distractions like 1.75 vs 1.15 to a post with substantial and thoughtful information about redundancy and cross-device compatibility is disrespectful
to the entire discussion.
Therefore, I ask again - Jeff, got substance?
Papa Duece, based on information from this and your other threads It seems like cost is a primary concern for you? If so, the functional question for you would be
how much computer can you afford?
There are other softwares with more features for less money, but if you need to conserve computer resources than that's the advantage Ots has for you.
