Hey, OTS users!... especially if you are upgraded...

Okay this is not a place where you may have argued in like in other forums, we can all survive here together. Show some respect for each other or post in another forum. this is not what we are all about. Its a place to enjoy sharing honestly politely to help one another grow.

I'm good with that.

I realize it takes 2 to argue, and I was the second half, but then I have the same right to respond that he has.

I appologize if I came across with any disrespect. It was not my intention.

Just trying to keep it real, and factual.

Far too many claim deception, and of being mislead. Simply tried to provide a simple correction, and got no respect for my correction.

Hey Jeff and I was not pointing fingers. We all have viewpoints and if one isnt receptive I plan no loss of sleep. Thanks for contributing.

The second is at a reduced price if it is added to the package. If it is purchased seperately, it will be full price, unless you can find someone to help unload it from....

Proformance? Possibly a taker right here with Papa Duece... If you are truly unhappy, this could help you both out. With Ots approval, it would cost like $20 to transfer the license... If you negotiate with each other, it could be possitive for you both.

Papa, I have 5! But IMO, it's worth every penny. (Granted, I bought them as Pro packages when they were $59 each.) :D

It just never ceases to amaze me. Ots gets bashed for years ....for not releasing ABM. So far it has run flawlessly (haven't heard anyone complaining about its stability) and yet we still see people taking their shots.

What shots? Serious food for thought is not "bashing".

I think it should be pointed out that buying for personal use (preference) and buying for business are very different.

I already acknowledged Ots' superiority in many functional areas. But I recommend that anyone looking for a professional long term solution consider the support and maintenance issues inherent with a proprietary file system and closed licensing.

That doesn't mean Ots should be ignored - it means you have to weigh the information against the merits of your own business requirements.

An important part of technology purchasing is the ability to look beyond where the product is right now and consider where it will be tomorrow. When predicting future performance you inevitably look to the past.

Waiting for ABM is not my issue. (Personally, I find it a feature that serves consumers not professionals). But waiting is itself a very serious issue for any business, including DJs.

Ots has not demonstrated an ability to update it's product in a timely manner. Serious business operates in a competitive world that demands timely solutions. Ots has not demonstrated that it can keep pace with timely product development and peripheral supports. No business wants to be held back by it's software.

The Ots proprietary file format also makes it presently unclear whether OtsDJ will be the Betamax of DJ software, or one of the few packages ready to accept the change from MP3 to a next generation music file.

If tomorrow isn't an issue for you then move on, it's that simple.

JT: Lighten up. I don't find Jeff personally disrespectful to me. If he finds criticism of his favorite software personally disrespectful - that's an issue he can own.

Trivia is indeed fact - but it's insignificant fact. Responding with trivial distractions like 1.75 vs 1.15 to a post with substantial and thoughtful information about redundancy and cross-device compatibility is disrespectful to the entire discussion.

Therefore, I ask again - Jeff, got substance?

Papa Duece, based on information from this and your other threads It seems like cost is a primary concern for you? If so, the functional question for you would be how much computer can you afford?

There are other softwares with more features for less money, but if you need to conserve computer resources than that's the advantage Ots has for you.

Only insofar as bang for my buck. The price I can handle. I have a nice Sony Vaio laptop that I already run VDJ on. I like that VDJ allows me - the solo op - the right to place it on as many of my computers as I choose as long as I am the only user. I have it on 3 computers now.

Nope, I'm cool with computers. I actually have 6 of them, including two macs.

I'm still of the opinion that OTS is unmatched for straight 1 to 2 mixing...It sounds great as well. I'd be prepared to look at purchasing Pro just on those 2 things.....alone ...the deal breaker for me is that it does not allow dual sound card support (well it does...you have to give up the processing and abm)and I'm not too thrilled about paying more to put it on my back up laptop either......

That being said I will likely purchase Turntables Silver for back ground/dinner apps and put this on my laptop.....

Then why not continue with VDJ? You get the portability you want, and the benefit of a music file that is instantly recognized by nearly any music device including new CD and DVD players. (Not to mention all the forth-coming media reading devices!)

I've been a full time professional DJ for nearly a quarter century. I can tell you honestly that Ots is better categorized as an automation tool - not DJ software. It's original and best application is the radio station, not an actual performing DJ. It's built for programming, logging, and management of air-play. ABM is for the new generation of internet and satellite radio channels.

Maybe someday Ots will add the features that live DJ performances require but, right now it's still a software that's meant to work alone.

More opinion Proformance!

I'm a mobile DJ, and Ots works perfectly for my needs, and it is as manual as you want it to be.

I've used it live since march of 2000, and been a DJ since '87. Before Ots, I used PCDJ... for 6 months. I also own a license for VDJ, and tried several other automation softwares such as ClubDJ pro, DJ Power, BPM studio. Yes I said Automation softwares! They are all simply tools to make your job easier.

The Software tools today are automation tools! Some better than others, but all automation. Even winamp! They load the tracks for you in the sequence you've set up. They segue the tracks for you unless you turn this capability off...

Isn't that the point of DJ software? to be a better tool? to assist you in providing a better show than you could do with older tools?

If you want anything less than automation, you'd better go back to your vinyl.

Scheduling is an option! It's not part of the stand alone package, and agreed, that would be considered radio.

You probably just consider this another worthless post! But Your post is mere opinion, and missleading!

Maybe someday Ots will add the features that live DJ performances require but, right now it's still a software that's meant to work alone.
I may be wrong, but I think that statement is a joke. Who are you to say what other DJs require?

Your statement is better written as:

Maybe someday Ots will add the features that I require, but right now it doesn't work for me.

Isn't that the point of DJ software?

No, it's not.
The point of automation is to remove the DJ.
The point of DJ software is to let the DJ apply his talent to the new digital music media.

You're application of the software seems to indicate you're the kind of DJ whose mix would emulate this software - that is to say, as far as the music is concerned you would in fact "just push play". After that it's just the same ol' song. So yes, in that case this software is a perfect clone for you at your weddings and other canned shows.

I use Ots - but not when I'm actually playing to a dancefloor. Ots is a passive solution for trade shows and jobs where there is no need to engage active dancers. It plays all day while I do something (or go somewhere) else. It's the kind of application that lets my radio friends be "on air" while they're actually at home in bed, or out partying in the clubs.

..to be a better tool? to assist you in providing a better show than you could do with older tools?

Ots is not a better DJ tool - a DJ tool would allow you to apply your DJ talent and creative skills to the file being played. Ots doesn't even provide for the typical tools and features available on Professional CD players! Ots as a DJ tool is actually a step backwards because of it's lack of active DJ features, much like CD players were before pitch control and instant start. Ots control features are best suited to people who never intend to use them.

Ots is a better playlist. It makes wonderful segues, balances audio levels, and is very stable, but the sum total of all it's features essentially provides the same experience as any other media server. It will not improve your DJing - just you're ability to walk away from the music and be something other than a Disc Jockey.

If this is the way you want your DJ software to perform - then you have set your standard only marginally higher than the free software that resides on most retail home computers.

Nice to see you arguing a mute point Pro... He feels one way you feel another can we leave it at that or would you like to stretch the thread further gaining nothing for anyone on this site? Oh wait its for your gain my bad. By all means please continue!

oh and you must have been selectively missing Mr Durios post. His point echoes loudest.

Your statement is better written as:

''Maybe someday Ots will add the features that I require, but right now it doesn't work for me''.
