Mix’s problem is ego all they have to say is we really want you but all we have is $100 he is gonna do the gig because they want him and it makes him feel good

To be fair, I think he has two problems. He wants to be in demand, and those requests feed the ego. But more importantly... he doesn't seem to have better client's calling.

Most of us give the advice to turn down the cheap stuff. But I know that I have faith to do that because I expect I'll get another quality call for most dates that I want to work. Mix clearly doesn't have that right now, which is why he ends up on these assistant gigs.

Wrong. I said it before sir. I would do jobs say for $150 because I was just so excited to be back doing what I love to do. I decided to leave such people alone because they don't get you anywhere. Besides that a gig paying say $250 isn't worth it because after expenses I find myself still behind the 8 ball. The money made after expenses is pocket change. Then there is the health difficulties and that's another reason to turn away people who have $250 to spend. If I'm going to be in pain after a gig, at least it should be worth it money wise.

I'll try asking this again since anytime I ask something that requires Mix to respond with a thought out answer, it gets ignored...

Mix - what do YOU think YOURE worth... and what do u feel u have to do to get there if you’re not already there??

What he feels he's worth probably has relatively little to do with it. It's my observation that Mix associates himself with a community that is poor, and I doubt very seriously that he's comfortable trying to re-associate himself with a community of people who have more money to spend. Until he's able to change that circle of people, all the talk of upping the game or valuing yourself more isn't going to accomplish anything productive.

This is exactly correct Mix is a hood DJ for low income people he doesn’t want to leave his area or expand his clientele, he is very comfortable with this crowd as it’s all he has ever known, he is probably at or near the top of his income potential based on the economic group he associates with

SO WRONG AGAIN SIR. That's not all that I know or where I've been. I have been in nice venues doing nice events for clients. Everything is not done in the hood. If the price is right and the place is in what you call the hood, it's a go. So long as it's a safe location. Which anything can happen anywhere. Especially where there are people drinking and some not knowing how to drink.

Mix you missed his point entirely. Maybe he should have put it this way. The people you get jobs from are not looking to spend a lot of money and since you are unwilling to reach out side of that group of people you are not comfortable playing for people outside of that group you will never really be able to raise your prices.

Mix does a 20 something couple want you to do their wedding? Could you do their wedding by yourself from start to finish? Could you do a sweet 16 party where you are only playing for the kids? You will answer yes to these because your ego says you have to but the real answer is no. You are more comfortable and suited to pay to an older crowd and unfortunately that crowd does not pay.

True - but they do pay - it's just that the music / groups of people he prefers are house music - which is a niche that he won't find where he is.
My top priority is safety first no matter what the music is the client wants. There are plenty of people that love house music. It's really not about what I like or want, it's about what the client wants and delivering what the client wants.

You're right, there are plenty of people that love house music - but very few of them seem to be in your area. You're also right that it's about what the client wants - but when you don't want to play what they like and are not into what's hot and what's not, then the customer will notice it. This would not be a good thing for you.

Mix if all you play is ( what you call ) house music You are limited to only that and that will make few and far between shows for you. Most people like to hear a mix of music not just one style

If this is your top priority then you need find a new area to play in. This doesn’t even make my top 10 list of concerns, why because my clients don’t have gigs in areas where crime is a problem so the topic isn’t even thought about, sure there an occasional minor scuffle but nothing dangerous by any means

How many of those "plenty" want to pay to hear it? Or want it for their wedding? or Sweet 16? It's a niche (as mentioned) and fine for club dancing, but NO, it's not going to sustain a mobile jock.

Again it's about what a client wants and can you deliver what they want? Just that simple.

Can you?

Actually I’m still curious why you avoided my question twice now:

How much do you think you’re worth... and if you’re not getting it... what do you think you need to do?
Depending on the type of event and where it's at the starting price is $350. For weddings $500. I am looking at it this way. We're not the busiest company out there so let's keep it respectable for now to build up business. What I'm actually worth is 10 zillion dollars! LOL.

And why do u believe you’re not getting those kinds of inquiries or prices currently?

Not getting enough of them honestly. Not being in front of enough and the right people. I need to work harder on that part. I still struggle with the health issues and that has me some days only able to go to the bathroom and kitchen.
