A member for a committee that is the treasure has been dying for me to do an event for them. He's seen me in action and he definitely wanted me for their next event. I just found out yesterday they are having an event on April 29th. That's the same day I already am committed to do another event somewhere else. The chair person for that committee before he got to be the chair again already told me last year he wanted me to do an event for them. Both people decided they only wanted me to do an event for the committees. Too bad both are on the same day. It just does the ego good when they want you badly and really don't want to think of someone else to do the job. Every once in a while I need such a boost to keep me going as a DJ.

I told my old partner what happened and left the guy his number and for him to call him about possibly doing the job. I called the guy to let him know I know someone that can possibly do it. Honestly I was hesitant about mentioning this to him because of the speakers he has to use. He has a pair of Mackie Thumps. He is looking to upgrade to better speakers this summer. I just talked to him and had to say if he did it he could use one of the 801p subs I have because he will need it in the room the event is to take place. Especially since he only has those tops to use. Don't judge him for the tops he has. He can play his AZZ OFF! He will have all the right music for them. Just my personal opinion I hate those what I call them Mackie Junks!

I know for sure in the future I will be doing a job for that particular committee. Just as long as I'm available. The committee I'm doing the event for is one that I've done about 5 events for and after this one are looking to work around my schedule for me to do another event for the. Like I said that feels good.

Yep.

This got me to thinking about something. This question is for us older DJs. What motivates you to still want to DJ?

I don't know about you old-timers, but my guess would be that it keeps you feeling young. Ask me in 30 years.

So on April 10 someone is looking to book a specific DJ they have in mind (you) for April 29th? Seriously? Someone books 19 days out and expects to find anyone appropriate to do the job? Clients who want *US* book well in advance. I have one event booked for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 at this time. While it's nice to be *wanted*, less than 3 weeks notice defines how *badly* they wanted you.

I been knew that I was wanted to do an event for that committee. It just so happened they picked a date that I am already scheduled to do an event. Found out about the date for this other event this past Sunday. So nothing I could do. I knewthe treasure wanted me to do an event for that committee at least 3 months ago. The problem was them figuring out a date to do another event so they don't lose the money they paid the facility.

I just found out things have changed. The other committee had to change the date for their event due to the venue being booked for the 29th. So the event will take place on April 22nd and I will be the DJ for the event after all. Also they are looking for me to do more events for them in the future provided I'm available. All they have to do is let me know way in advance when they are having an event and I'm willing to keep the date open for them. So God worked it out in my favor. Since there's only 10 days before the event is to take place, that means working real hard to get people to attend the event. I'm excited because today is my first day celebrating 20 years of being clean and serine! Also this is my 30th year in business as well. I just thank God for sparing my life.

Macho word of advice... Stop the "I'm willing to keep the date open for them" nonsense. If you want people to appreciate you and treat you and the business you operate with respect, you MUST have them sign a contract and provide a deposit to secure the date. If they already changed dates once, whose to say they wont do it again in the future and if you don't have the new date open... you're out of luck with no deposit and no income coming in for that date you "were willing to keep open" (assuming you are charging them).

I made that mistake enough times in my early days for friends.

Working with them is more than just doing this event for them and others in the future. Also dealing with them there never is an issue with getting paid and I do mean NEVER.

You mentioned this group has been dying for you to do an event with them... meaning you've never done one before to know how they will treat you. A contract is also meant to protect them in case you do something irresponsible like not show up or not perform the duties expected of you.

Business is business... if you don't treat it as one, why should they look at you as a legitimate one.

It's also a group that plans their events 10 days in advance, and has no idea how many people will be attending. Maybe they're dying for him to do an event with them because they might not have the money available to pay him. No contract, no commitment. :)
