This idea is not new and I came accross it from a photo on Brian Harris' FB.

It looked like he had inverted some Electric Stove Drip Pans and made them into stands for uplighting. This is a way better idea than I had, had at one time of taking baking tins and cutting holes for wires in them... these already have the holes needed.

According to Brian he purchased his at http://djsprosales.com/proddetail.p...ase&prodname=DJS+Pro+Lighting+8"+Par+Can+Base

But as you can see from the next link they are suspiciously similar products minus the mounting bolt and big washer... take a look http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00848770000P?keyword=electric+range+drip+pans

Thank you Brian you have given me the solution to uplighting stands I've been looking for!

wow you can get em four for 11.99 when not listed as a DJ product. Go figure.

You should have read Brian's remarks when I posted Sears' price on four of them..... LOL

He did give me permission to share though... I think it's an outstanding idea..... beats the hell out of my cake pan idea since it already has the holes in them.

The Dollar Store also sells them! You can also use Flower Pots and drill a hole in the base. If you are using LEDs you won't have to worry about the plastic melting. http://www2.yardiac.com/list_categories.asp?id=102

True.... and when I do go shopping for some I'm going to look for the ones with the smallest center hole with the deepest bowl possible.

So, a little online research and I should be able to find what I want most likely for less than the DJ site.

my mother in law used to use stainless steel mixing bowls
that look a lot like the stove thingy's.
they have NO holes (and none of those odd shaped openings on the side) so you could drill 'em as you see fit.
may be more expensive, but they'd probable look better
and they're probably a little tougher than the stove pans.

of course, if yer just using them for stands, I used to use old metal bases from a microphone stand

BEE-YOO-TEE-FULL!

much better than the stove pans OR the mixing bowls OR the mic stands.
(especially for the price)

Actually, I was thinking OLD SCHOOL heavy-a*s lights

That's a great way of doing it and in fact was how I was planning on doing it... but, with the Drip Pans since there is a hole in the side if you get ones that are deep you could stuff excess cables into the hole. No drilling necessary or cutting or other things that require power tools.
