Is 50's music dead? What about 60's music?

IMHO, 'Fifties' is not requested because most of the time it's the younger crowd that does the requesting. The older folks 'hope' you play it and then they'll dance. It you don't play it, they'll just sit there. If you play for the young ones early on, they won't dance anyhow since they haven't had a chance to get liquored up yet.

I generally try to play for the older ones earlier on but throw in a newer tune so the younger crowd knows that I have what they like as well.

How true! It's good to play for the older crowd early on, let the younger folks get liquored up. I do not talk much thru my sets, however I'll let 'em know when I change genre or speed. Always good to break up the high energy stuff a few times during the night with some slow a**-grabbers.

50's music still works well, I find it best to just play it!

Best,

Paul

I would think Philly/South Jersey would be a mecca for 50's and 60's music with the influences of Jerry Blavat and Sam Lit(Hy's son) both doing regular oldies dances throughout the Delaware Valley.

I'm about an hour NORTH of Philly,
and the demographics, the attitudes, the intellect, and the prices
change a LOT when you go just a little north or south from here.
it's like entering a whole new world.
so what works in Philly isn't necessarily gonna fly in my area!
