Hopefully a New York show will be in the works. The Jersey boys will surely attend.
Location: Staten Island. I service New York City, North, Central, South New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
If you tavel in and thru NJ for a gig, what's wrong with coming to NJ for the MB show? The show in Edison 3 weeks ago was only 15 miles from the center of Staten Island!

Welcome to the forum, Ryan. It's great to see you here. I can't imagine why Ducky is so irritated about an opportunity to subscribe to Mobile Beat Magazine. I know that I look forward to every issue.
Ditto, and ditto.

Go to https://members.mobilebeat.com, register and then use the discount code 3FMB for 3 free issues.

Hi Ryan! Thanks for sponsoring ODJT!

I've taken you up on your offer for the 3 free issues. You can't beat FREE! :triwink:

If I recall, I had picked up a few of the past issues while at the ADJA Chicago show last year and enjoyed them. Then, they got lost in the shuffle and I never did get back to checking more into ordering a subscription.

Look forward to the first one arriving.

Welcome aboard Ryan

Rick you are a trip!

You have no idea!

Welcome to ODJT, Ryan!

And Cam: I believe Mobile Beat has a pretty "open door" policy on submissions. If you want to try your hand at writing an article, I'm pretty certain it would get looked at.

welcome Ryan.....great to see you here!

Your old dj buddy Jeff from Oregon btw, as my username is probably not obvious.....!

Cronin? - Cool DUDE! - Sorry I didn't catch it.

If we could afford to bring more artists out we would. But with attendees are aren't willing to pay much more than $149 to $179 a pass, we really can't do much on the budget. I'd love to book something higher, but with 1300-1500 attendees it's not feasible.

Sure, who would you recommend to write such an article. Big poll, we have done in the past, maybe time to do it again.

We have about a 40% advertising to 60% editorial radio, less than most magazines, I'd love to have more of both and add another 20 pages to it.

We have brought alot of new blood into the magazine in the last 5 years since I bought it, and would love more. Suggestions.

Ryan

PS: I love constructive crititizm like this, keep bringing it.

Ryan, Thank You for the update. You asked for thoughts and I posted just that, upon your professional explanation I will purchase a subscription to your publication. I know it has been some time since I had received a copy.

yessir.

BC Productions alumni here!

Got a little dj biz out here in the mountains of Oregon.....just a single op, running purely off word of mouth. Keeps me about as busy as I want to be, given a normal 50 hour a week Monday through Friday "regular gig".

Glad to see you here!

I think the normal article writers are good at what they do but most of the time when I read something it comes from the same group of people or camp.

I agree with this part. How many times can you read the same stuff over and over again?

Some fresh stuff would be good.

Ryan,

My wife and I buy tickets to see acts performing in town while we are at the convention, which have included Prince, Elton John and Santana. How about charging just for an intimate show at the Top Of the Riv? Now I'm not suggesting trying to go after real big fish, but having an artist AT the convention would be something I would pay extra for.

How does everyone else feel about that idea?

Better yet, how about a Christian Artist?

We have gotta get you out to the Vegas conference!

I'd love to do such, it's just that there hasn't been as many people interested as I would hope for.

Ryan

Everyone TALKS interest but when it comes down to parting with an extra $20. See how fast the interest falls. I maenads there are still people trying to fake badges. To get any one of marquee value you would talking $25k. So you would have to tap everyone for $25. People grumble at paying $150 now

Ryan - Nice to have you aboard!

After seeing Cam's comments, I'd like to voice some observations. Its probbaly not gonna be liked - but they are honest, and I hope it will make not only MB better - but take what we have been doing online for years to the next level:

1- The industry rags are far too "positive." Maybe it's because they are still growing into a decent advertising revenue model - but I've NEVER seen a bad review for anything in any of the magagazine. I love hearing about new gear, but not everything is worth their price tag... It would be nice to see a magazine say "Its just not worth it" or "It's not ready yet."

2- Shootouts. When we're in the market for gear we have lots of choices, and the most technologicly awesome piece of gear may not fit everyone. I'd LOVE to start seeing monthly columns on specific types of hear where you compare and contrast AND RATE the leading options in the market.

3- Spotlights. DJ Times kinda does this with their DJ of the month, but I'd like to see more from the MB Point of view. I'd love to see what mobile guys are doing to make themselves more marketable, make the experience better for their brides. This could be about the performance, the lighting or even a clean setup

4- Charts... I'd love to see a weekly or monthly MB chart that does the mobile version of the Billboard Hot 100. I LOVE the MBtop 200 list - but I think with the connection with DJ Intelligence - we can do better! I'd also like to see the big promo music companies get involved with "predictions" on what would be hot for the next month... understood that this would likely be an online thing with the publishing cycle.

5- more going back to basics with monthly columns about the different segments of the dj industry - mitzahs, weddings, schools, sweet 16s etc...

Now I have to say, I respect Ryan and Cam for bringing their points of view here, there is one simple answer I have for Cam's comments - start writting your column. I'm sure if it addresses an area of the market that needs attention - Ryan would be most thankful for your contributions!

1. That's a tough area but we always say what level of a Dj a product is for. Plus there are around a dozen or so products that we send back to manufacturers telling them that the product is not ready for the market.

2. Tough to do because of variety but will look into that.

3. Been doing one or two every month for about 5 years.

4. Just started with the September issue a such school list.

5. We do similar every year with our theme issues. Will work on more regulars though. We are actually about to add 8 more pages to the magazine because of the wealth of the content coming in.

Aloha Ryan,,,,
nice to see you here..... a few of my Monday @ MBLV golfers live here at this site....

People should support the magazine, by saying I am not subscribing because of this or that, doesn't help,,,,, I hate to say it, but we all know it, "money makes the world go round".....

People need to support the magazine, the convention and so on. People who sit back and complain but don't do anything about it are like the people who don't vote then bit*h about the President,,,,

New writers, new presenters, no problem, who would you suggest or are you willing to step up in a room full of your peers and let out what it is you have to offer?

I speak from experience of presenting at many conventions, that there is nothing more nerve wracking than standing up in front of a room full of DJs who KNOW what it takes, and tell them some new idea.

Ryan is trying his hardest but needs the support. I think it is great that he is putting himself out here on our little "Island Of Misfits" LOL

Aloha Ryan.... hope that you are more than a "One Thread Man" around here, but I know that you are busy.... See ya in 2011....
