I have always used MDIS SoftJock Audio Software to keep my external hard drive continuously spinning so it does not go to sleep when paused for several seconds. I just bought 2 new computers and noticed the SoftJock website is no longer available to download. Can someone please suggest something that they use that works well and where I can download it. So what I see is that you're the internal HD in the computer. Me I use an external portable HD and one for backup to store my music on. You said you bought 2 new computers. What did you buy?
I'm sorry. I didn't see it said external HD. I would checkout what HD you're using or it could be the speed of the computers you're using. I have never had to use a program so my HD keeps spinning. What I know is that my laptops need to have enough ram speed so there's no issues with my software program and HD has a problem with working properly.
This issue was addressed over a decade ago. My advice is to upgrade to a modern solid state external drive.
Thanks for the replies. I have brand you seagate EHDs. The only time it is really an issue is during wedding ceremony when music is paused on several occasions. I'll just make sure I have all my ceremony music loaded on my C: internal hard drive.
I still don't understand why it's an issue. I can load a song on to my controller and no issues with playing a song after it's loaded for minutes.
You said this only happens when you do the ceremony. What are you using for your ceremony setup?

It's a zip file containing an executable program designed to keep "green disks" (those that stop spinning to save energy) spinning by pinging the drive at designed intervals. Some DJ programs rely on low latency and instant access. Green disks create both problems.
If you cannot download it, the issue is on your end, probably a firewall setting for downloading any container with an executable in it.
Hey Cap, I am the guy you sent the Keep My Disk Spinning Zip File a few days ago. The file worked great on my external hard drive. My question to you now is, If I buy a newer solid state external will my issue be solved also and not even need the file you sent. I know solid states do not spin down like the older externals but do they still go to sleep.
There are no moving parts in an SSD. If you're concerned with any SSD drive sleeping/hibernating/et al, you can change the power settings so that it will never rest.
I'd not put any mission critical songs on a portable drive to play. I reduce the number of parts that can fail.

I am very nervous until ceremony recessional is complete. Have several backups in place but I just don't trust electronics and I think that is a good thing if you want to do a good job. Reception is a lot easier and less stressful. If a song cracks or freezes while everyone is on the dance floor you just say OPPS-Sorry about that and move on.
I don't have an issue with using a portable HD. I have 2. One for backup. The only issue I've had is when I dropped one and it stopped working. What I use are 2 TB portable Toshiba HD's.
I agree with your setup and it is valid. That said, my entire library is external and has been for almost 2 decades. The benefit here is that it is separate from any one system / OS, can be moved to any system at any time and doesn't rely on the storage capacity of any one system. I can easily (and quickly) add several TB of external storage to a system .. getting that on your main system drive can be costly. I fully believe in backups .. so systems and drives are completely redundant. In the event of a system crash, failure or rebuild, my library is fully intact. I need a host system with software .. ready to roll. Either way is not wrong or right, if it works for you, then it works.
