For those who do not know how to distinguish a bachata from a merengue, the bachata many times you will hear a heavy dose of guitar sound. here is samples of Bachatas.

I agree that Bachata is very popular here in Miami. If you play for the Latin crowd then you must have some Bachata. One very popular artist right now is Prince Royce who has a few songs that has topped the charts. You tube him and you shall see his great songs. I play them all the time.
I guess things are different here in Philly. I personally can't tell one style of Latin from another, but apparently it doesn't matter, because when guests come up and ask for "Latin Music", and I ask them for a suggestion of what to play, they never know what to play.
I rarely get asked for Latin music, but when I do, there is one mernegue song I always play, and I don't even know what it is called, but some people seem to like it.

Amazon is pretty good but as far as mix cds I can tell you because I dont buy any Cds at all. I dont really need to buy CDs I will usually download from I Tunes or get it through my record pool. I know its harder for you though if you need a certain song or something let me know we are all here to help and learn from each other.
I know it isn't that because I don't have that song, but I can go see what it is.

try a group "oro solido" they seem to work....
and i know what you mean, ,... i play a lot of "all=english" events, and from time to time people ask from country or 'young country'
and apparently there are a few variations......
Great Song Papa Deuce I thought it would be Suavemente because most of the parties I have been too and the DJ is not Latin they always play Suavemente and I am really tired of that song there are tons of Merengues out there that will get the party going like
