I feel that being digital has helped me be more aware of my surroundings and a better entertainer. I used to spend all my time looking at my cd's, now I watch the crowd.

And that excuse some use who still play Cd's "We need to be seen touching our CD's so people know we are doing something". I'll agree. When all you do is DJ ie play music, you need to have the perception of working. If one is not comfortable coming from behind the console or interacting with the crowd, then what else is there to do? However these days it's much easier and more efficient to offer digital music. Playing a CD in a CD player is the same damn thing as playing an MP3 on a laptop. Except instead of carrying 5000 tiny little hard drives (which is what a CD is) and playing it on a computerized player that reads and encodes digital information into analog sound (which is what a CD player does) I use a computer. One hard drive (or a really big CD) and a digital reader (computer) makes things much more efficient. I don't damn anyone for wanting to use CD's for their own reason but those who use CD's should use that as "better service" over digital. That's like saying a secretary should be using rotary phone over a hand free voice connect or computerized phone service because it makes he look like she's doing more. What she's doing is using her time much more efficient. That's why technology changes, for more efficiency.I feel that being digital has helped me be more aware of my surroundings and a better entertainer. Since we're commenting on the "requests", I read somewhere that because these DJ's use CD's they have the flexibility to handle requests where one using a laptop doesn't. Huh? A digital DJ can have unlimited amounts of music available merely at the touch of a key stroke. No searching through CD bins, no looking through catalogs, no putting a CD into a player and waiting for it to boot up, etc. If physically holding a CD means one has a better ability to fulfill requests again I say Huh? With a laptop and verizon wireless Internet card I have the ability to fulfill practically any request at most any function. I can also search, load, and play a song in under 5 seconds if need be. That just struck me as funny.
back to booths, what would you build one out of that would be light and durable enough?
I built mine out of an old futon frame (1 x 4) and 1/8” masonite.
It’s very lightweight and strong! The French cleat table top (½” plywood) holds the whole thing together with 3 latches on the bottom. It is covered with automotive carpet.
It straps together with luggage straps and is carried over the shoulder with an old duffle bag strap.
Overall dimensions are 3’ high, 4’ long, and 2’ deep

No, I didn't say better. What I said was, sorry, you say you read something that said someone with cd's is better at requests than a laptop/internet? Just want to clear this up incase I misread lol
I just didn't quite understand how using CD's makes one more flexible to handle requests. That just doesn't make sense to me.I read somewhere that because these DJ's use CD's they have the flexibility to handle requests where one using a laptop doesn't. Huh?
I find the time to play some pocket pool. Digitally of course.Haha...I am mostly digital, I still have a Pioneer CMX 3000 in my rack. If a song has a scratch or back spin effect in it, I've been known to play with the dials on the player during a song, as if I'm perfoming that song live. Nobody can see me do this, cause of my facade...it's just one of those silly things I do to entertain myself sometimes.
I think it would be classy addition at any function. But like Steve said let the clients decide. How great and unique it is to offer something different than to just say "uh, I need an 8 foot table skirted".The lighted facade would be great at shows where the DJ company wants or needs to be seen.
Remember the old '80s perception of DJs? A table with components piled up and a snake pit of wires and cables all over. The facade has cleaned up the DJ's perceived appearance quite a bit.

Thanks, now quite changing the subject. Does everything always have to be about you?:sqerr:I think he meant faster digitally.
Back to the subject, I quoted my new lighted facade to a bride today. We will see what she thinks. I hope Steve doesn't want to hunt me down as I am using his pictures to show what it can look like. Yes, she will know that the pics are not ours.
