Absolutely. The majority of the venues only have one circuit. They may have multiple outlets, but they are commonly on one circuit.

Newer venues do better, but the average venue in these parts is better than 30 years old.

Wow, thats interesting because I've NEVER been to a venue with only one circuit. Even the pool pavillion I play in alot has more than one I can access. I'd be very suprised if an entire venue only has 1 circuit.

At a school winter formal last weekend we used 6 circuits and that was a stretch, with that particular show, 8 is more in the comfort zone.

They really are crap. I have 2 and one of them has broken within the first year.

Take it from me, I went the DJ Scan 250 route and they are CRAP. They work okay in stand alone mode, but have very jerky motors and have one speed...fast. Even on DMX control, they are very limited because their movements have no finess, and they can't strobe. The only way to black them out without turning off the light is to use a "black" gobo at the end of the gobo wheel, which means they will "scroll" wildly for a few seconds before the light goes away.

The SCX500s are MUCH nicer, and you will be much happier.

I love your first post in this thread

So you use junk?:sqwink: Merry Christmas!!
I have 10 that are 8 years old and work perfectly. Of course I take care of my units and do routine maintenance.

I have been looking at the Martin Scanners and the SCX600's seem to offer quite a bit more for not that much more $$.

They also seem to have quite a bit more built in sound active programs from some videos I found on YouTube.

The 500's have 15 colors and 15 gobos while the 600's have 9 colors and 7 gobos's which are rotating.
The 600's are double the weight of the 500's
the 600's are more then 3 times as bright, 1600 lumens vs 500 lumens.
Also the bulb life in the 600's is double, so 1000hrs vs 500 hrs.

Do those differences make the $250 price jump worth it though. So around $550 vs $300.

I am thinking for school events the added $500 could be used towards other lights and effects. The extra output, rotating gobo are really nice. The main thing is the Sound Active mode. The 600's have 12 effects AND 12 pan/tilts the 500's have only "12 pre-programmed macros)

I'm just not sure which put on a better show.

Hey man, when I was first getting started in college they were cheap and work great for DJ gigs. They still do work very nice for DJ gigs where the DJ can't afford to rent real gear.

I decided on the SCX500's. Not gonna cost as much as we thought. And we are gonna buy the Enttec Pro DMX controller and use Free-Styler for the light shows.

Gonna see if we can buy them used to save some money.

I've used them both and the SCXs are a much better path to follow. If you buy the 4 DJ Scans now it'll be only a matter of time before you feel you "need" to sell them and upgrade again. You may not get the wow effect with 4 fixtures but your wallet will thank you in the future.

P.S. See if you can purchase 4 used ones. You might be able to save some big $. Then if you decide to upgrade to the SCX600s down the rode you could probably sell the 500s for what you paid for them. Now that's a good investment :). Just my .3 cents!

So in RETROspect.

Your participation here on a Cheap Arse DJ board allows you to criticize the tools or cheapen them cause in your industry our gear would be considered junk. Im starting to get it now. You know us DJs didnt get much in the smarts department thanks for helping our self esteem. We ought to bow down to you Mike. Merry Christmas.:sqerr:

On topic the Martins will make the proper tool for much time ahead. Also wanted to know what kind of deal you were able to get?

Snatched one off eBay for $170. And I have another person in my area who can sell me them for $280 new. We are going to use 2 at first and then add more as we find them cheap. We figure 2 of the Martin scanners. A revo 4 and the 2 led bar or wash lights or revo expresses will make for a nice show for school at first.

Martin lighting is excellent. I used to have a Martin Destroyer light and it was fantastic and lasted years. It accidentally dropped from over 6ft off the top of my wardrobe one time when I was doing a party at my house, straight onto a very thin carpet and BANG it went. I thought "holy sh*t". But it was still going while on the floor. It vibrated off though because I had 5k of JBL and Peavey in my bedroom.

Sometimes I hate the internet. It is so hard to tell when someone is being serious and when they are just kidding. I sincerely apologize, and I am going to remove my post. It was my fault for misreading your intention. I was wrong, and I am sorry.

By the way. being Christian doesn't mean I am perfect. I have my bad moods (even on Christmas). But I try my best to make it right. So you have my apology.

Reviving a dead thread, but I didn't want to start another to ask a simple question.

What road/flight case would work well with 2 of the Martin SCX 500's? I can't seem to find anything online.
