Sorry, but I get request all the time for these songs...however, a number of Brides do take notice of this list and include them on HER Do Not Play List. Yes, Steve, one could have a good party playing these songs...and have them dancing too.

BTW, they must really hate Cotton Eyed Joe .. it's on there twice from 2 different performers (and, no, I didn't play that).

Cotton Eyed Joe and Wagon Wheel played 80% of the time in North Carolina.
They were ...

Any of the songs on the list seem to work for me at weddings...forget it when it comes to Sweet Sixteen.

It's our own fault - we played them to death. There's many on that list I'm sick of myself. I've mentioned this before - when I get asked for the Electric Slide (which I hate), I put on "Numbers" by Bobby Bare - same exact dance routine, and you can really play around with it. I'd be interested in any other "substitutions" others might have.

There were about 30 that I play quite often and probably another 10 I've played in the last year at some point

As with most line dance songs, there are many songs you can use in place of the 'primary' song.

Maybe they really didn't get many people to respond, so the results are skewed to the few that did.

I can see some of them (Macarena, Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey, etc.), but I know I have played just about all of them in the past year or 2. I think the only one I haven't was Teach Me How to Dougie .. no one's asked and I can stand it personally.

All playable. What's the point? Gotta keep in mind that as a DJ, we get burned out on these tunes. However, your crowds mostly only hear these songs at an event. A one time shot. Looks like that list came from burned out DJs.

I totally believe that they are the most request DNP songs - but not all at the same event. Any song that gets lots of radio or event play can get old. Certain clients will always want to avoid these types of songs - but likely isn't requesting to avoid them all.

My default position is to avoid the line dances, as well as tunes like We Are Family, Celebration, etc. But there's a lot on that list that I still play frequently and works well.

If you learn what your clients want, it's not rocket science.

Especially when radio plays the hits every two hours. And that's NOT an exaggeration.

I just hate it when the bride puts a lot of GOOD songs on her DNP list, simply because SHE (thinks she) has heard them too often.
And it REALLY sucks when her guests turn out to be the kind of people that NEED those overplayed songs to get them motivated.
Which usually leads me to ask them....."And why do you think you always hear these songs at weddings???"

I've often thought of asking, "So, you don't want people to dance at your wedding?" but that's just not very tactful.

I hate when they have complete genres as DNP...I've actually started telling them I don't eliminate genres. I've had more than one list where they wanted no country but Allan Jackson, Steve Earle and Shania Twain were on the must play list. Trying to explain it to them is like trying to push a rope

I actually find it fun when a couple pushes me to be creative with a playlist.

I've played lots of opening sets in nightclubs. And as an opener the whole gig is to play the first two hours without burning up all of the hottest tracks on the radio at the moment. So, it becomes a fun game to build energy without going to the obvious tunes that you'd expect people to dance to. There's a real art to opening well - and lots of DJs screw it up.

If you have a software that shows you play count... it might be fun to try to program an hour long dance set avoiding your top 25-50 songs. See what new stuff you come up with that you might have forgotten about.
