Lot's of good music from Europe.
Russian site. They accept paypal.
Tracks are 0.15$ in 192kbps but also some in 320kbps.

Would you use them?

Guys, do we really understand how the licensing thing works well enough to slam something down like that? I'm all for compliance, but as non-pirated cds can be sold internationally legally, why not non-pirated digital tracks?

I think it's more a question of are those versions offered legit licensed versions period, rather than licensed for certain distribution?

I'm not lobbying either way for the above site, but just for some clarification to see how this all works and if anyone here is certain on it.

***As a side note, the above site does claim to be in compliance with Russian laws regarding copyright and licensing fees, and also states that laws in your particular country regarding copyright will take precedence. They also have the requisite disclaimers about the downloads being for personal use only/duplication/etc.

Assuming that the songs offered there are licensed versions, what would make it illegal to use them? They may be perfectly legit.

I'm not going to say your wrong and Doug is right or vice versa however what I do know is the RIAA and the other alphabet clowns haven't bribed the Russian government into having jurisdiction over all their citizen's music.

What I do know is that over here in America the RIAA and associated acts have a stranglehold on copyrights and current copyright law are of very little service to anyone else but corporations.

I also know that the RIAA is very litigious over on our side of the pond and are allowed to sue anyone for pretty much anything without any concrete proof.

Therefore I'd rather be on the safe side and stick with good ol' CDs or American download sites. :)

Sites like the one above are on the right track.

Why people steal music? Because is too expensive. I know many kids with over 10000 songs on their hard drives. Did they pay 1000's of dollars to buy their music from itunes? I don't think so.
Make music affordable and piracy will disappear overnight.

For my Dj business I prefer to rip my CDs and be sure I have the best quality. Beside is still illegal to use any digital service without AVLA approval in Canada.

But for my personal use this service is one of the best. I bought a chilout album for 0.15$.
In Europe I use to pay 30-40 dollars for the same CD collection.

You might want to check that out last I heard it's a gray area

Sure, if you think theft is the right track.

Where's the line, and who decides what "affordable" means. 99 cents per song, versus the days of having to spend $15 for one song seems much more affordable to me. And it's legal.

But for my personal use this service is one of the best. I bought a chilout album for 0.15$.

I'm not telling you how to live, or run your business, but.

How much of that 0.15$ do you think went to anyone who made the music you just "bought"?

There was a time when the Russian download service allofMP3.com was billed as legal. Turned out it really wasn't and the Russian guv'mint shut it down.

These overseas DL sites may be sanctioned within the confines of their borders. That alone doesn't necessarily put them in compliance with international law.

As DJs, we're using music for commercial purposes. As I understand, downloaded tracks aren't licenced for commercial use.

lol we cant use them from Australia thats for sure
