I am new to this whole wedding DJ thing and I am in need of a wedding contract. Before I get alot of people telling me that I do not want to just jump into the entire wedding thing and ruin someone's wedding let me first state: I have DJ'ed school dances and birthday parties. So I do have experience with all my equipment. Also this wedding is for my nephew that is getting married and waited till the last minute to find a DJ, so i am helping him out. As far as the contract goes, I am really only wanting to see the format ideas in what one should look like. I am assuming the contract will have all the information I need to DJ the gig as far as the Bride and Groom parties, Parents, Entry songs, first dance, father bride song, mother groom song and any other special announcments that might be needed. So really I am just kinda needing ideas on the format. I am not needing all the pricing contracts since I am doing just to help out. Any ideas would be great.

if you want to do this as a business then consult an Attorney and have him/her draw up the necessary Contracts for you that is specific to what you want to do as well as what is legal in your town and State.
You don't need a Contract to list songs you will or have to play.

Get with your nephew and just picture the event from start to end and plan when everything is going to take place and who is doing what and what music is going to be used.

Don't confuse a contract (money side and requirements part of the deal) with a wedding worksheet or planning guide listing songs, names etc..
If you want to do this professionally and have done school dances etc... you should have a contract (Canute is right, get a professional help you draw one up (hard to believe you have done other organized events, gigs, etc... without one in place)), if you are not going to continue pursuing this professionally than Cesar is right, sit down make a list get the info and go with it.

jfrizman - before you think of asking anymore questions
how about telling us all we need to know who you are , what you do etc in filling out details on your profile

when newbies do that these days all they will get is a bad rep and wonder why they even came here

we would like to know who you are so we know its someone thats not being smart

sorry if you feel targeted but this is how it is on all dj forums as a newbie till we know who you are!!

have a nice day

Welcome Friz and yes, please introduce yourself. That said, like Ron said, I think you're confusing "Contract" with "Timeline". Congratulations on actually being diligent to try and find out how to do it right rather than just "fake it till you make it." I applaud you for that. Here's a (very) rough outline that I use. Hope this helps.

Grand Entrance (introduce the bridal party and B&G, client typically selects the song to use)
First Dance (client picks song)
Blessing
Dinner
Bride-Father Dance (client picks song)
Groom-Mother Dance (client picks song)
open dance here or go straight to cake?
Cake cutting (client picks song)
Toasts (wireless mic needed)
open dancing
Bouquet toss (client picks song)
Getting of the Garter (client picks song)
Garter toss (client picks song)
open dancing
Last song (client picks song)

Your contract should not list out all those people you mentioned...it should be between you and the bride/groom. It should list the services you are providing, when, where and at what time. Also, it should outline what you require of them in order to fullfil the contract. Payment, payment schedule, what is required at the venue etc.

You really should consult an attorney...tell them what you need to be protected against and have them draft it up. Expensive? Perhaps, but a necessary operating expense.
