My second gig from last weekend was a short 2 hour event for the local Jack and Jill chapter. It's a family based social group from I can tell. This was another gig I subcontracted from another DJ. The client asked in advance if I had a long extension cord and I told them I did. I had about 200 feet of extension cords with me. When I arrive the client tells me her husband provided a generator. It was a Nexus 2000 watt EGO Power Station. It wasn't a generator instead it was a big battery pack. I was very skeptical but it got me through my 2 hour gig using just my RCF J8s, Laptop and Phenyx Pro wireless mic. This thing is heavier than my gas generator but it is silent. The client owns a farm and they say that they use this for power when they are out working in the field.
I ended up being placed in an area away from all of the activity for this event. I was under a gazebo in the park but everything was happening further away in the rec center or with the horse back rides that were also part of the entertainment. I was just providing sound to an empty gazebo where people were supposed to eat lunch. Since I was alone I took some time to make a quick video of how well the batteries worked. Have any of you ever used something like this to power your DJ setup outdoors?
